This feather was found in the grass next to a large pond in southwest Florida.
This feather is NOT soft like a feather usually is. Those ridges are pretty rigid!
Must be from sort of shore bird. Yet, this birder is stumped!
Let me know if you need more information.
Thank you for your help!

I'm not a birder... but "black", "bird", "Florida", and it's hard to escape Anhinga as a guess. :)

Anhinga would also be my first guess, or it could also be a red-winged blackbird.

Thank you, Anduril, for taking the time to reply. I like your suggestion! anhingas are frequent visitors to this body of water.
Thank you, Mackaydon, for taking the time to respond. Cormorant is a good suggestion! I've seen them here.
Claypile, I appreciate your response. Anhinga is more likely since it is such a long feather. And there are no reeds for red wings here.
Kray Gelder! You convinced me of anhinga with the photo! Thank you for taking the time to reply! I never thought of their tail feathers being so rigid. Amazing creation!
Mystery solved - thanks to you all!
I'm thrilled with knowing!
