Beautiful day here on our little island. Popped into a field not far from my house that’s brought me all kinds of coins and she didn’t let me down today. The 1p is an ounce & 2p is 2 ounces.

The reason being, they wanted to follow the silver & gold standard, & 1 ounze of copper in 1797 was worth 1 Penny. They were hugely unpopular, hence the 1 year of issue, & they dropped the connection between weight & value. They then became kitchen pan-weights.:thumbsup:
