Hi:hello:

Days are getting shorter and cutting into the low tide time table:blackbeard:

Hunted these past two days in the mid-day sunlight at the high tide line where I found a few low lying areas devoid of the fluffy sand...down to the gray flat surface of the slope.:icon_thumright:

Found lots of clads yesterday ( no photo), and today it was clads, sinkers, and an ornate Sterling ring with the year"62 inscribed under the face of the ring.

Yesterday was my Birthday , and today's ring find was a nice post Birthday gift :hello2:

Here's some pix...thanks again for looking at my finds

Lorraine

Congrats on the finds. Most of all Happy birthday

Nice find on the silver ring and great clean up job. Happy birthday and glad you are getting out. How long do you soak in the Tar-X? It says to just wipe on and wipe off on the stuff I got. I've hoped to go metal detecting everyday for the last 2-3 weeks, but Murphy's law and a few other circumstances have foiled my plans. What was that quote by Steinbeck: The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray.

great ring Lorraine, and a belated happy birthday.

Depends on how thickly tarnished the item is: if it is very encrusted, then I precede the Tarn -x soak with electrolysis; but for mildly tarnished items, I will let the item soak for anywhere from 1 minute ( if I'm low on patience) to 3 minutes with no residual problems.

Happy late HAPPY BIRTHDAY Lorraine...very nice looking ring your the best...

You are the "Queen" of clean! I am always so impressed with your finds and how you clean them up. I wish I could do half as well. Beautiful ring. WTG

Thank you, mnruxpin,

There are many ways to clean heavily tarnished silver; below is the method that I use:

Soak in Tar -X ; followed by a rinse in warm water, and then scrub with baking soda and a soft toothbrush;

repeat the above process until all tarnish is removed; finish off with Jeweler's rouge buffing.

Question..... I am never sure how long to soak in Tar-X or how long the whole process would take. I know each piece is different so there is no set answer for the process but I thought you weren't supposed to soak an item in Tar-X. I thought you were just supposed to dip it in and take it out right away. I know I'm a pain with all my questions but you really do well with the cleaning process. OH yeah and I'm late but better late than never.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Thank you for your kind words, Mumszi.

The only items that I don't ever soak in Tarn-X are those with precious stones; otherwise:

Well Happy Birthday To You !! and you did have a nice day. My birthday was last Wednesday 11/06/13 I went to the surf 2 days last week but just found some junk and clad. The beaches around here are as flat as a pancake right now, and sanded in again. Hopefully this 35 kt. north wind with a growing moon will knock some of the sand down and cut out some troughs, supposed to blow hard for 2 or 3 days...Going out Thursday thru Saturday, one can only have faith and hope for the best.

Greg
