A little different, but interesting and I found it today

I'm still here. Haven't gotten out there since my last post.
Limit - you've been a good friend here and I promise next time I'll bring a line and a weight. You keep things simple and clean. I respect that.

I got out there for the first time in a couple months.
Slid the lid over enough to see in. There are more railroad rail braces in there and the thing is full of water. We've had a lot of rain lately. This is on a ridge and the water level is about 10 feet above the ridge! Maybe it was a cistern and maybe it is fed by an underground stream. Earlier I posted a picture of an ancient grinding stone which is a few meters from here. This place was probably a popular place to live for thousands of years.

What is all that in the bottom in the 2cd pic? It looks like old pipe or something.... Also those steel beams look kind of like old mine cart track in that photo.... :icon_scratch:

It could be a native place for their dead?

It's on a ridge higher than the terrain nearby and the top is a dozen feet above the ridge so I think there must be a spring right there.
And there's the Native People's grinding stone right below it so humans probably came to this spot for many years.

The closer parts of the woods are what grab my interest right now - I stumbled upon a 1/2 dozen people in medieval clothes doing some kind of I-don't-know-what thing yesterday.

Thanks Maps.... No thoughts on the 1/2 dozen people (stay away from them?). Don't think about pumping water out until you know how deep. Knowing how deep might make ya a little "smarter". And if it is spring feed you may not even be able to lower and/or drain if you attempted anyway. Can you attach your friends Go-Pro to a stiff wire and lower while lighting up with overhead floodlight. Wire would be better so it wouldn't spin. Household wire would work great like a length of 12-2 or 14-2. The Go-Pro we used in my cave was underwater waterproof. Wouldn't it be great to know the true depth and then get a wire to accommodate this depth? Then attach a floodlight pointing down on end of wire with the Go-Pro attached above the light also pointing down and lower down to the bottom. If the water is "clear" it should work great I believe. Common sense would have to be used above by tying off wire to something before lowering. You might be VERY surprised what is located at the bottom! Anything that is in there can only be at the bottom. Check you PM buddy.

if its for water, you know how people are though they will throw anything in em and the whole wishing well thing has been around forever. no doubt gonna have some hidden treasures in it. Since it is a mound like that though, im thinking it could be a very old looted indian burial mound. The whole story behind it makes sense, with the rail road ties for support to pull stuff out with rope possibly? Either way be careful if it is a burial mound though, they say those are sacred and looters will get bad luck. Also in some places laws protect them, not sure about an already possibly looted on though. Back then there probably wasnt any laws protecting them and people had no problem building a little something over them to loot remove stuff etc. The go pro sounds like a excellent idea, get down in there see if you can see any old beads on the bottom or bones. Might even be some laying around outside out of it

If its in the woods, it could be a charcoal pit. We have them all over Pa. Wood would be piled high, set on fire, then buried with a chimney, then when they were ready to collect, they would plug the chimney to smother the fire. Just a thought.

I'd run a detector around the area never know it may have been a gathering spot years ago.

I know Ive seen something like this before online, If i find the link I will post it.

LOLOL, Come on Meno is already pretty timid, lets not give the poor guy nightmares.

I had to giggle when the yipping coyote turned you back Meno, I knock kids over and will send a woman flying to get a shot at coyotes.

Gotta love the internet..

I haven’t been out there since my last update.
Earlier I mentioned a buddy with a GoPro camera, but he doesn’t have an underwater setup, so now I’m looking into renting an underwater camera which I can lower into the mound.

Thanks for a really interesting read. Quite an adventure. Can't believe how you kept your composure with a couple of the posts though!.
That's been a brilliant hunt so far, and I have a funny feeling theres stuff to be found there. A strong magnet on a rope would be my next step. And a detector. There's obviously been loads of activity there. Best of luck.

Let's rock buddy....

Figured I'd give an update.
Still have not gone back and dropped a weighted line, or rented a GoPro camera, or even walked up to the mound.
But I was near it this morning, maybe 1/4 mile away, and I found this laying on the trail.

It has an outside layer of non-magnetic metal, maybe copper.
Then another slightly thicker layer of non-magnetic metal, maybe copper again.
Then a layer of wood.

It is hollow but has something it in - maybe wood and dirt.

Any idea of what it is?

Could it be part of a bellows?

Could it be part of a bellows?

When poking at the middle of this copper/wood thing I found a lot of wood and I'm beginning to think it was solid, not hollow.
I'll re-post the pix under the "What is it" topic.

I've been following this thread since day one, it's been a year (almost)! And I must say, I'm pretty close to flying myself out there haha! I cannot wait to hear how deep it is and get an update with pictures and/or video! Happy hunting Maps.

And I have not been able to get out there and do anything significant.
