Well I went back to my mom's had to watch the boy march in a Contest near her home. This AM she told me to go ahead and sneak away to detect for a while and she would watch the kids. I was checking out the Beast making sure it was well fed (full batteries) and that it was ready to go. Started swinging in front of my mom's house just to make sure it was working and found a few pennies and then a really cool Eisenhower token. When it popped out of the ground I thought I had found a "silver" dollar, it was the right size in diameter but to thin, and I scratched the crap out of it.
Well I drove to my alma matter and started swinging. I had my headphones on and didn't notice that four dogs had noticed me and started heading my way. One of the dogs, a German sheppard mix decided he would investigate and walked up pretty close to me. I generally don't fear dogs so I just kept swinging and got a signal. Bent down to dig the signal and I dropped the Beast causing the headphones to come unplugged and the Beast let out a yelp at the mistreatment. The dog must not have liked it much because he decided my leg looked good enough to be his breakfast.
Now I normally like animals but this SOB had my pant leg and was pulling and jerking just as hard as he could and I noticed one of the other dogs was heading toward me to help his buddy out. I had my Lesche in my hand blade side in my hand and without thinking I cracked the dog on the nose with the handle of the Lesche! The dog yelped and let go of my pants, he staggered sideways a few steps and was shaking his head and rubbing his nose with one of his paws. I jumped up and grabbed the Beast. I might get eaten but I wasn't going down without a fight! Well the dog must have thought better of messing with me again because he turned around and ran off across the field, with the other three following right behind him! I was pretty shaken up but I kept trying to swing. I got a good strong "silver" signal from the Beast and I dug 10 inches and the only thing I could find was a rock. A big rock but still a rock. Well I gave up and moved off to try a different place.
I decided that I was sick of scratching my finds too and decided I needed a new digger. As luck would have it I got my wish. I was a little worried. The last time I used a piece of power equipment I put it through the front of my house. Honestly!
Here is the new digging equipment I decided to try
I kept swinging and I found 9 quarters, 9 nickels in a neat little pile burried in the gravel, 20 dimes and 39 pennies. A pretty good total and an important find for me. My 1000th coin! A 1971 Penny.
The little tractor was burried in the gravel and I am sure some where someone isn't too happy with losing it, they cost a little $$$.
All in all I was doing pretty good. An elderly gentlman came by and got a little irate with me digging holes with my new digger in the park and then I hit a water line and decided it was time to go.
