Well I went back to my mom's had to watch the boy march in a Contest near her home. This AM she told me to go ahead and sneak away to detect for a while and she would watch the kids. I was checking out the Beast making sure it was well fed (full batteries) and that it was ready to go. Started swinging in front of my mom's house just to make sure it was working and found a few pennies and then a really cool Eisenhower token. When it popped out of the ground I thought I had found a "silver" dollar, it was the right size in diameter but to thin, and I scratched the crap out of it. :(

Well I drove to my alma matter and started swinging. I had my headphones on and didn't notice that four dogs had noticed me and started heading my way. One of the dogs, a German sheppard mix decided he would investigate and walked up pretty close to me. I generally don't fear dogs so I just kept swinging and got a signal. Bent down to dig the signal and I dropped the Beast causing the headphones to come unplugged and the Beast let out a yelp at the mistreatment. The dog must not have liked it much because he decided my leg looked good enough to be his breakfast. >:( Now I normally like animals but this SOB had my pant leg and was pulling and jerking just as hard as he could and I noticed one of the other dogs was heading toward me to help his buddy out. I had my Lesche in my hand blade side in my hand and without thinking I cracked the dog on the nose with the handle of the Lesche! The dog yelped and let go of my pants, he staggered sideways a few steps and was shaking his head and rubbing his nose with one of his paws. I jumped up and grabbed the Beast. I might get eaten but I wasn't going down without a fight! Well the dog must have thought better of messing with me again because he turned around and ran off across the field, with the other three following right behind him! I was pretty shaken up but I kept trying to swing. I got a good strong "silver" signal from the Beast and I dug 10 inches and the only thing I could find was a rock. A big rock but still a rock. Well I gave up and moved off to try a different place.

I decided that I was sick of scratching my finds too and decided I needed a new digger. As luck would have it I got my wish. I was a little worried. The last time I used a piece of power equipment I put it through the front of my house. Honestly! :-[
Here is the new digging equipment I decided to try

I kept swinging and I found 9 quarters, 9 nickels in a neat little pile burried in the gravel, 20 dimes and 39 pennies. A pretty good total and an important find for me. My 1000th coin! A 1971 Penny. :) :) :) :) The little tractor was burried in the gravel and I am sure some where someone isn't too happy with losing it, they cost a little $$$.

All in all I was doing pretty good. An elderly gentlman came by and got a little irate with me digging holes with my new digger in the park and then I hit a water line and decided it was time to go. ;D :D

I've seen plugs that look like they've been dug with a backhoe.

i'd say you did pretty good and i'm glad the dogs decided to go the other way ;) congrats

Cool looking token, too bad you scratched it. Don't feel bad, I too have a few scratch marks on some decent finds.

The weird thing is Kirk that the soil around my mom's house plays all kind of games with the Beast. It told me the Token was 10 inches deep and it turned out to be less than 2 inches! I was really sad when I saw how bad I had mangled the President. :-[ :( I think I need a Whites around her house! :D Actually me Deleon won't even work in the soil there. Old leadmine area. :(

Mastereagle i have some of those tokens where do you think they came from?

Glad you got rid of the dogs..I'm in the minority but I don't like using headphones..it tends to make me less aware of what's around me (they come in handy near the airport though).

I have the Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy and George Washington tokens from the same series, must have been popular with kids since I found 2 of them at schools.

At 6 AM I had to wear the headphones. Normally I do NOT wear them. I haven't found a pair I like enough to use.

great post...and a nice hunt too! :)

glad you didn't have to blade the pooch -- the butt of the handle works great too to defend yourself with -- but if not theres always plan "b'" --- I say keep your dogs "under control " in public --- personally I really like dogs --- if their well trained and under control ( other folks kids too for that matter)--- I like neither one of em if their acting like "wild animals" and are out of control--- Ivan

I like your digger!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Your Eisenhower token is from the Game of Presidents. It has cards and tokens of all of the presidents up thru L. B. J. It wouldn't surprise me any, if there isn't newer versions that contain presidential tokens up to and including George W. Bush, but I haven't seen them.

HH and lots of luck.

nice digs minus the token and backhoe and double the trash that is what I came out with for this entire week. Kids have been sick and I had to sit through a hunter ed. class with the boys for 2 days.... :-[

I deserve a metal detecting vacation now.

I'm glad all the dog got was your pants leg.

OK mastereagle, lets look at the bright side of things. At least it wasn't a zipper pull that you scratched ;). Still a very nice token. Congrats!

Nice finds, can i borrow your digger? I've found a few of those presidentual tokens ,too. Now we learn they are from a game, that's cool. I thought they may have been part of a set. Glad to hear the dog incident turned out as good as it did.

good for you I have yet to get through the hunter safety ed course. Baldingboy said he would take me deer hunting if I would go through the class. Trusting him with a detector is a whole lot different than trusting him with a gun! ;D ;D ;D ;D
