A Quarter, Some Wheats, A Rare Pulltab, An Army Guy, And A Fork

Hi all,

I got permission to search a private yard back in April, where I found my first Buffalo nickel and a nice heavy silver ring..I drove by there again today and thought I'd go over the yard again.

I checked the side of the house in the front yard, and my very first hit was this silver quarter.

Other than that, my only other coin target in the front yard (besides clad) was a lone wheat penny. The back yard had mostly thick, overgrown zoysia (yuk) but I managed to get out 3 more wheats. The dates on all were 1941-P, 1944-P, 1952-D and 1958-D.

Also in the back I found my second rare 1963 "zip top" pull tab..my first one was found about a month ago in another private yard 2 miles away.

Then came a surprise..I dug what was a deep "iffy" signal and saw a shiney, almost white-looking handle..I grabbed it and pulled sideways and out came this solid silver fork! It had that "silver-white" look to it (like silver coins have) and was VERY heavy! Maybe I can melt it down and make it into a silver dollar

The other finds pictured were these 2 gear-like wheels found right next to each other and an old toy soldier..it's just plastic, but I dug it near an old tree..I thought it was interesting because the figure didn't resemble the more modern plastic soldiers.

Nat, a solid silver fork! I've never seen a whole silver eating utinsel come out of the ground. I've found a few parts and pieces of them though thats the first. Is it marked "coin silver" anywhere? I found a piece of one with that mark once. Good find on the soldier also.

It's funny but last April the guy next door to that house let me check his yard..I found a silver spoon in his, but it was plated and was of a different brand..you can see the plating "flake" off some parts of it, and the metal beneath was dark. This one was so heavy and white looking with no sign of plating or corrosion..I look at it as a silver dollar in the shape of a fork

The only word on it is the word "Community". What's interesting is I found a silver spoon ring earlier in the year, and the only word on the inside of the band was Community as well..another TNet member enlightened me to the fact that that company made fine silver.

Nice job on the finds. I also think that the soldier is very cool.

I just found my first piece of sterling flatware last week. Google " silver hallmarks" and you can probably date it.

Thanks I'll do that! I never thought I'd get that many remarks about the soldier..I've found so many "non-metal" items on my hunts this year that I could have displayed them all as a separate collection.
