A Recent Find at an 1812 Site

I wasn’t sure where to post this. It is made of lead and appears to mimic a man’s head with a hat. Any ideas on the age based on the hat and the possible use.

When lead is pounded flat it can hold a flint.
Leather works too but could hold a spark/smoldering ember in the right conditions. And will stay damp if wet.
Your pieces wings might have been for folding over the jaw of a flintlock.
But the piece used for something else as the top jaw screw notch isn't there. Something decorative perhaps.

I think it's a amateurish piece of "trench art" or similar, I see the man's profile, it even appears that he might have a beard as well, but no mustache, the hat looks sorta like the hats worn by the Amish and so does the beard.
