Well, got out on Friday and took Josh Sherman with me where he ended up finding his first Gardner and a nice Flying Eagle cent....here's my finds which include a really cool brass Crown. This crown has attachment hooks on the back as you will see in the photo which looks like it attached maybe to a leather strap but not sure...Also, a 1862 Indian Head penny, Silver war Nickel, 2 piece cuff flower button, Imperial Standard flat button, a top notch(umbrella) piece (common in Civil War camps), couple musket balls, brass D buckle, pieces to a necklace or bracelet that I'm not sure what the age is on them, and a big iron buckle with the tongue still in very good condition...usually they are the first thing to rust and fall off but this one is made quite well.......I'd like to find out more about the crown; it may be something pretty cool but other than that....Not ALL are home runs but a few are keepers

Great finds Josh. I have found the umbrella tops in CW sites too but I can't envision a soldier with an umbrella (maybe Modern Miner) . Obviously, young ladies were allowed in CW Camps. WTG and HH, Quindy.

Nice group of finds. That crown is cool. :icon_thumright:

What are you talking? No homeruns? :icon_scratch: That crown is awesome! What era is that? And the Injun and the buttons! Looks like a winner to me! :icon_pirat:

Nana

Just a bunch of good looking relics. I have heard that many women followed the moving troops. Neat history you have recovered.
Happy Holdays

Yes, this is how I've always made it make sense in my mind

Looks to be a Victorian (Crown is a giveaway) Capbadge. Although the fixing method is unusual & the two loops at the base clearly were part of chains which attached to another fittment. This to me seems to be quite an ornate type which could lead down a Scottish route? Were there any know Scottish trops in the area?

Josh,
Some nice relics. That crown is a very cool looking piece. Hopefully you will get an ID on it.

Don't listen to Quindy, he's just jealous that I look better in a dress than him. :tongue3: :laughing9:

If not Scottish, it is definately British Military & another option might be a drum ornamentation. I know I have seen similar, I just can't place where right now..... :icon_scratch:

I'm thinking the crown is not military but is part of a young lady's Chatelaine.

I'm thinking that the clips on the back suggest that the crown relates to cap, strap or pouch.
Could it be a holdover from earlier times - 1812 , or 1770's -- I'm guessing ammo pouch
circa 1812 . Argentium.

The Royal Crown type doesn't fit that time frame.

That is a very unique and interesting find Josh, I also look forward to what to seeing what this thing really is after its researched. Very nice hunt as usual :headbang: Jeff

Very cool
I was leaning toward British or maybe Canadian on the crown. But there are people like Crusader who will know more about that than me. As far as ladies in the camps. There are records and picss of wives in winter camps with soldiers also there were the camp followers. Ladies of a certain occupation that would surely welcome large groups of young lonely men. :laughing7:
