Well, got out on Friday and took Josh Sherman with me where he ended up finding his first Gardner and a nice Flying Eagle cent....here's my finds which include a really cool brass Crown. This crown has attachment hooks on the back as you will see in the photo which looks like it attached maybe to a leather strap but not sure...Also, a 1862 Indian Head penny, Silver war Nickel, 2 piece cuff flower button, Imperial Standard flat button, a top notch(umbrella) piece (common in Civil War camps), couple musket balls, brass D buckle, pieces to a necklace or bracelet that I'm not sure what the age is on them, and a big iron buckle with the tongue still in very good condition...usually they are the first thing to rust and fall off but this one is made quite well.......I'd like to find out more about the crown; it may be something pretty cool but other than that....Not ALL are home runs but a few are keepers

Great finds Josh. I have found the umbrella tops in CW sites too but I can't envision a soldier with an umbrella (maybe Modern Miner) . Obviously, young ladies were allowed in CW Camps. WTG and HH, Quindy.

Josh,
Some nice relics. That crown is a very cool looking piece. Hopefully you will get an ID on it.

Don't listen to Quindy, he's just jealous that I look better in a dress than him. :tongue3: :laughing9:

LOL @ Doug.

Cru, I only know of British troops being in the area, not sure about Scottish

British fit fine, Scottish was a guess. I know I have seen similar, if I remember I will update.

Definitely looks like the Victorian crown of Britain....did come across this quote however,

"the Queen Victoria's crown 1837-1901, (R49*). This isn't strictly Victoria's crown because it was used by most of the monarchs before her, but it is associated with her more than anybody else. Its' proper name is St. Edward's crown. The Hertfordshire Yeomanry.."

...Would like to I.D. it... We have alot of history in this area that involves the Kings men.

Thanks Tinpan, do you have a photo of an example by chance? I know that many British officers were sent as ambassadors to the Confederacy and particularly in the part of Virginia that I am in. This was found not far from where a large Confederate Artillery emplacement use to be. With this said, I don't know of any Scottish soldiers or officers visiting this area but who's to say?? Appreciate your help on the I.D.

Hi , the british empire was made up of about 20 different countries or called british colonies whicn include britain , scotland, ireland, canada, india, australia , to name a few. Badge variants and crown variants existed as slight as some may be .Thousands of different types and regiments. Badges of pressed copper came in one piece, 2 piece or 3 seperate pieces. The mount design of yours shows a fixed type with an attachment that is what makes me think this one is off a harness heres a few examples
