If you read Nate’s post Don came up from Wooster and hunted with us yesterday.
We started off in an area that use to have an old farm house. Hoping that the area had not been relandscaped we proceeded to hunt. After about 45 minutes no one had found anything old so I gave the word it was time to move on. Don wanted to dig one more signal so while I was waiting for him I got a nice “silver/Quarter” tone. Dig it and it’s a heavy silver ring.
Marked NF925.
We then proceeded to the next area. As we parked the car and proceeded to enter the woods off the main road Nate tells me that there could be something good right where we were walking. I told him emphatically “No way”. Well, later he was to prove me wrong by finding the 1932 penny in that area.
Anyway at the main area it took some time but Nate was the first to find a coin. Merc he proclaims. I found a lead button and some bullet casings but no coin. A little later Nate finds a 1920 Wheat penny. Shortly after that he leaves the spot he is working and wanders off. I proceed to work the area and come up with this beautiful 1923 Merc.
Man is it nice to find earlier Mercs in nice shape. So, I worked the area more not finding much. Nate comes back after his wanderings in the woods and mentions to me that I haven’t moved in the last hour. I think he knew there was still something good to be had. He then moves into the same spot after I leave and pulls out a sweet 1899 IH. The dirty dog!
So then it’s my turn again and I pull two nice early wheats:
The other neat item is this Shell tag. It says “Finder Mail to…” “…Insert Social Security Number above”.
All in all a fun hunt. Only 7 coins found but all dated prior to 1933.
