On a weekend outing we came across a nice waterfall and swimming hole in the woods just outside of town. After a cool swim :fish: I grabbed my metal detector and scrambled up the hillside just above the falls. BAM! My first strong signal was directly in line with the falls and just below the crest of the slope. Four or 5 inches down I hit 'Big Silver'. A light rinse with my water bottle revealed my first Walker Halk, a 1917! :hello2:

Minutes later the sky began to darken, the wind picked up, and the thunder began to rumble. Still I was already ahead and happy to have Lady Liberty securely in my pocket. My wife arrived shortly after to rescue me before the downpour.

Thanks for Looking!
Nick

You should be happy , because if a coin of that size can be found at the swimming hole , I think there's a good chance that the site has not
been hunted out ! Go get it !!!

Congrats on the big silver! Awesome!

id be back there searchin the whole area and the water

Awesome find, looks a great place to hunt.

Good Job, Nick........your WL Half is a 1917-D, with D mintmark on the reverse, with a mintage of 1,940,000......they also minted the 1917 WL with the mintmark "D" or "S", on the obverse.....Nice coin.....should be more goodies to be found there.....Good Luck!!

Happy Hunting to ALL

Very good eye, wlb42! I hadn't completely cleaned this coin up yet and thought I saw a mint mark there earlier. Now that you mentioned it I took a hand lens to that spot and sure enough it is a 1917-D. Thanks.

congrats on that big ole honkin silver!

that coin is so awesome .. I just found a 1917 S this week .. you must be so happy lol

Grats Wildcat, very nice recovery there ! Someday one will turn up here again but I am really happy with my latest finds a Sag and an Ike they don't turn up around here hardly ever !

Great score wildcat! And what a cool looking swimming hole. As others have mentioned, you should hunt it hard.

Nice OLD Walker!

Wow! Big congrats on your first Walker! That is one beautiful old half, Way to go!

Congrats on that big silver! You just missed that being a Barber Half, better get back out there in better weather as soon as you can. There are most likely a few more old silver coins and relics in that area. Will be watching for your next post ;-)
