A theory about Brinks clear wrapped dimes in some areas...

I've been searching dimes for almost a year. About six months ago, I was on the verge of never searching dimes again due to finding absolutely nothing.

At that time, I had searched at least $5,000 in Brinks clear wraps and had not discovered the first silver dime.

On the advice of many people on this forum, I switched to CWR's and String rolls. I am averaging one silver dime per $135, give or take some.

To date, I have searched a conservative minimum amount of $6,500 worth of Brinks clear wraps, and have still yet to find the first silver. But, when searching Brinks rolls, I don't find Canadian dimes or British 5 pence coins either.

I do find lots of Canadian and foreign coins in String rolls, often finding as many as 10 foreign coins per $100 searched.

While I don't believe Brinks has employees standing around culling silver out of the system, I do theorize that the coin counters they use may pull and reject silver, as well as foreign coins, just as my local dump bank's coin counter does.

I know that some posters do well with Brinks clear wraps. Perhaps their local Brinks sorting facility uses different coin machines. I would also believe that it is plausible that Brinks uses different coin counters within the same facility, helping explain why some in my area are getting decent boxes on occasion, but I am getting solid skunks.

I've had lengthy discussions with the silver hound tellers at several local banks, and they say that they have never once found a silver dime in any Brinks clear wraps.

If my theory is true, it would explain why at least one poster on this forum says that he buys silver on a routine basis from both Brinks and Loomis employees.

With that said, it would be easy for a Brinks employee to check the reject tray, and cherry pick it for silver.

Im not sure what company my clear wrappers come from tho i do get silver from them even it is a little less then the paper wrapped. I also found my oldest seated liberty in a clear wrapper.

Clear wrapped Brinks rarely produces any silver for me. Every now and then one or two, but I have much better luck with string rolls. The boxes in my area that are clear wrapped come in a box with no peep holes. The string boxes have the holes on the bottom. Always disappointed a bit when I ask for a box of dimes and out comes a Brink box.

Im new to this, but I would point out that it is very easy to miss silver in the clear wraps. In my first two boxes I held back 7 rolls with possible silvers in them (darkish looking rims), one was silver. Good eye sight helps out with peering through the wraps, and good lighting. If you are only looking for bright white silver you are most likely missing some.

I am happy for those finding silver in Brinks clear wraps. I really am!

I've gotten at least four more Brinks boxes of dimes since the time of the OP, and I still haven't found any silver dimes. String rolls have been a bit slow for me too, but I am still finding silver in Strings, along with Canadian, UK, Barbados and coat buttons.

I still believe that Brinks may have gotten a new coin counting machine that rejects silver dimes and other foreign coin, just as the coin machine at my dump bank, thus the reason for finding no silver in my Brinks clear wraps.

Again, I don't think Brinks is culling silver on purpose, but it is being rejected by the machines.

And FWIW, I always use a magnifying glass while searching dimes, and pull out anything black, odd, and frosty colored.

I feel you, tackled 7 WF Brinks boxes today and all were skunks.

I tried my luck with 4 BoA ($500 each) boxes and landed 5 rosies.

It's out there but things sure are slow...

If this is true, it would only be true for some Brinks facilities. I average 2-3 silver dimes per 4-5 Brinks boxes, and I am in the dry area known as Southern California.
