If I had to guess it's the wiring in the headphone jack. That would cause the headphones to not work and if there is a short in the headphone jack it would cause the headphones to not work and if the detector is working like if there are headphones plugged in (caused by the short) then it will jot make sounds out of the main speaker

Fixed.......It was the headphones themselves....Sure feel stupid on that one...A piece of the plugin broke off, and kept the machine from sounding off.....Got it out, and good as new...So glad to have my little sniper back...It tore my AT Pro up today at a trashy area...
