Sure been quiet, think wyo medic found a honey hole! Lol well I hope everyone's finding goodies

Quiet, yep. With the "honey do" list I have, detecting has not been a option for a few weeks. The dear wife has to work on the 3 day weekend, so I get to play!! BTW I did have to get new headphones, picked up a set of Sunray, pretty sweet phones. They may be a bit sweaty for full summer hunting, buy they sure are comfortable.

the lower the population , the fewer the post ---plus folks who find goodies out in the "wilds" tend to be tight lipped

kstalkup - that's a us military officers rank ---capts bars--- used on the shirt collar

I just buy ear buds and cut one off. Keeps ya cooler and u can hear them rattle snakes!

I am in Rawlins working the oil patch for the summer. I'd really like to meet someone who could show me some spots to rock hunt or do some gold panning in the area. I see this thread has been generally geared towards metal detecting. Sadly I don't own one.

Bald Mountain, or Big Baldy as it is known locally, is a barren, dome-like highland that rises above the black-timbered slopes of the Big Horn Mts. Big Baldy stand south of where Alternate US Highway 14 crosses Sheridan County into Big Horn County. In the 1880s, Big Baldy was the center of a mining boom where fortunes were staked on finding a ledgendary lode of gold supposedly once worked by Indians. A few log structures may still stand.

The town of Bonanza is at the junction of Paintrock and Noweed Creeks about 13 miles from Manderson. The discivery of oil flowing from a spring there in 1887 precipitated a boom. A rambling log-and-frame building that housed a saloon and general store may be still standing.

WOW, I don't post for a few weeks and the place dies...:dontknow:

Ya'll are welcome to come back.
I haven't been hunting much, to much fishin' to do

I've never used a metal detector, but if anyone needs a prospecting buddy around the Rawlins area I'm interested.

I've gotten out a few times but nothing spectacular found . This weekend it's on tho! Hitting the old spots with new detector.

I'm considering a fisher gold bug 2 as a gold detector here in Wyoming. How is the mineralization? A pi machine is out of my price range at the moment. Would a gold bug work well for me?

A_SLY1, welcome.

There are pros and cons to a nugget shooter machine, If you are going to be in "the wilderness" then they are great cuz they will pick up everything metal. If you want a machine that you can take to the park a nugget shooter sucks cuz it picks up EVERYTHING, down to the pinhead sized sliver of gum wrapper. I have a Whites GMT for nuggets and a Minelab 705, the 705 has a prospecting mode that will work for the "wilderness" and you can still use it in town. You WILL want to go to the park and search, so you may want to look into a dual purpose machine, or get 2!

Hello all....I am from Casper and in the process of buying a detector hoping to get back into MD after 30+ years. Any tips or advice for starting out would be appreciated. I am a retired older dude so lucky me can go out just about anytime and I am looking forward to starting over.....thanks in advance....Bill C.
