Our beautiful Mercury dime disappeared in 1946 in favor of another dead president. After 80 yrs, FDR is hopefully buried for good!😊 Unfortunately a new quarter is coming out that still has Washington.

A lot of people might not realize it, but the Lincoln cent, the FDR dime, and the Washington quarter all began life as intended to be a one year commemorative issue. I'm not sure why they continued on after that first year though. The Lincoln cent was to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Mr. Lincoln's birth. The Roosevelt dime was intended to honor his passing by putting his image on the dime because he had suffered polio and was the founder of the March of Dimes Foundation. George Washington was placed on the quarter to celebrate the 200th anniversary of his birth. The current likeness of Washington is the one that was originally proposed for use in 1932. Of course Kennedy was placed on the half dollar to honor him after his assassination, but it wasn't originally intended as a one year only issue as the others were supposed to be.
Personally, I would love to see our coinage return to images of Lady Liberty instead of politicians.

If they were going to do a dime they should of Done A Rosey the Riveter Dime or something.
Nothing t do wth the anniversary, but would at least make for aninteresting Dime.

Back in my Yoot, da college years, I had an apartment with all white walls. I painted a really nice Kilroy across a wall in the living room. The landlord was not impressed

Lady Liberty is supposed to be a Democratic version of George Washington. Or so it goes. I read your post too quickly and immediately thought they had feminized George Washington.

They need to retire FDR permanently. 80 yrs is waaaay too long for a single coin design. Lincoln, Washington and Jefferson have been on them even longer. We finally got rid of pennies and Lincoln.👍
