Almost didnt make my anniversary

This winter almost ended my string. I was doubting I might ever detect again.

But....I made it! Got out today and with visions of double eagles/Diamond rings/ etc. Etc.

I finally made it!

Even though I had big hopes, at least the very first dig of this, my fiftieth year in detecting, was a coin!! Promising! 🙄😇

The silverware set is actually stainless. It looks modern but it was about a foot down!!

The lil blob at the bottom has some sort of pattern in it but I have no clue.🤷‍♂️

Soooo, onward and upward?

Congratulations on 50 years of swingin. Looks like you still have what it takes, nice batch of finds. Your stainless silverware set it the type used by scouts with their mess kits. Some are marked with the scout emblem, but there are many companies that make the same type set and not all scouts or campers buy the official set. Stay safe, good luck and keep swingin for more years to come.

The coins are current Mexican Pesos, the 5 Peso is worth around 28 cents US, the 1 Peso is worth around 5+ cents US.

I figure it has to be an early edition. It being almost a foot deep! It came out plenty dirty but, being stainless, they cleaned up quite well and easily.

Indeed, you must have been a pioneer. Fifty years ago metal detecting was uncommon. I was not even aware of it until I started about 30 years ago. There were lots of sites and no competition. Very different today. But the sharing MDers do, like on this site, is nice.

I started out with a Radio Shack kit. Had to keep one finger on the tuning button while swinging. 😏

Moved up to a Garrett Groundhog with large coil and stayed with for 1st 10 years! Used it for all types of hunting. Even out in waist deep water!!

I still have it *and* it *still works! Bought in '76!

We had no idea just how much was in the ground back then! Silver, gold rings, wonderful coins! ( look at my best finds).

Nowadays, I can barely get out and I can't hardly find even a wheatie!!! It's all clad!!!
Partly my fault as I have to hunt the easiest sites I can reach. Can't find what's not there! 😏
