Almost got skunked today

Found some flakes and brokes then I saw this on the last spot. I found some small pieces of pottery but left them I already had those designs. This is a new one for me so its going in a frame. I believe the "Hole" in the middle probably is here a handle use to be. It would of been a big pot.

It is actually quite flat must of been 3/4 of the way up on the side. My friend walked past it twice. Looked like a piece of bark laying there. I picked it up and asked him if he just didn't want it or what? Its always fun when your hunting partner walks rite past something. He got me a few times before when I have missed something so it was a funny for me to do the same to him.

I tried to look it up but as far as a name I came up empty but it looks to be late woodland period I think.

That's a tough one it looks paddle stamped with alot of wear

I was thinking Incised as being possible but the example was a poor picture I was trying to match it to.

Thanks its a design I don't have yet. Frame worthy to me. I have found some bigger pieces lately and might have to put them in a shadow box so there is more room a frame with a lid.

That is so awesome! I'm in the middle of a dry spell except for a couple small shards coming up without anything but then again haven't been able to hunt the creek like usual due to work, yard work and harvesting the garden. Glad you didn't get sprayed by the skunk! There is one spot of the creek I can smell skunk there real strong and thinking that on the other side they must have a den and it "leaks" out their aroma, needless to say I keep my eyes and ears open when I'm near it. I'll poke around on the net and see if I can find a pattern like your shard, if it's Woodland it mighta been a trade item.
