Don't you just love it when your teller says "You may like this!" ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1499299848.066388.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1499299869.099866.webp

So far I've only edge searched $400 of them. Haven't seen any silver rims yet. I'll check out the rest tonight. Anything else besides silver to look for?

Dannycoco, don't forget to also look for the 1972 Type 2 (High Relief) Philly. Its the one that has no islands to the south of Florida on the globe on the reverse. The 1972 had 3 Types but Type 2 is the one to look for. Also there were 2 types for the Bicentennial issue. The "T" in states on the reverse is the best indicator to determine which type you have. Do a google for ike errors and I'm sure you will find a reference page that goes into better detail of what I just listed.

Best of luck!

Damn, this thread is getting long!

You have to keep in mind that the Mint had no idea what they were doing when it came to large dollars. When the mandate was issued to mint the Ike, there were no workers that had any experience. The last large dollar that was minted was the Peace dollar in the 30's, and the workers were retired by the time Ike came to press. They literally had to dust off machines in storage and learn as they went.

My coin shop sells all Ikes for $1.25 a piece. I should ask next time I'm in there, but I bet they'd buy at $1.10!
Guaranteed, LCS will not pay over face for a circulated clad IKE (unless it is a type-II variety). In fact, they will not even pay face unless they have a history of moving them at a premium - they will tell you to spend it.

keep in mind that some "searchers" can't find a deleted email without appointing a "special prosecutor" :zoom: :-\::):sad10: :icon_biggrin: :sad5:

I've trained my tellers to ask me "do youze be wantin' these"
someday it may be a sack of double eagles :dontknow: :laughing9:
Wouldn't that be nice!

Wow these guys get serious with their IKE's!

The Ike Group turned me on to Ikes. When I started 35+ years ago, I was into cents and silver. Eventually as the years progressed, my eyesight has gotten worse. Even with glasses, I can't see the dates and details on the cents. I still have too many cents, but I don't even collect them anymore. But when it comes to Ikes, they are large enough to spy the varieties without needing a loupe. One of my first varieties that I found and still have is a Talon Head Ike.

GUYS my local pawn shop has 2 Ikes 1971 D in the case with $25 price tags on each of them and they think they are silver. I'm curious if I went there and tried to sell a couple to them how much they'd pay me? They said they were interested in some more.... I mentioned something like I don't think they are silver and then they insisted they were and they tested them. I think they probably looked up 1971 silver Eisenhower and saw listings for 40% and just automatically thought all 1971 Ikes were silver..... They also have a gold filled pocket watch in the case for $5000 because they say it's solid 14k
