I haven't been out at all this summer knocking on doors or anything for that matter. I decided to wait and save my energy for the fields. I have been lining up permissions for the last few months and have checked them all to see what was growing the fields. The permission I got yesterday had part of the field cut and ready to go. The house site luckily sat in that area of the field. It took me a couple of hours to find the site but it was well worth it.

I started off by getting some scrap junk and pieces of pewter utensils. The first coin came and I thought it was gonna be a fatty indian. To my surprise it was an 1858 Flying Eagle. I later snagged a beautiful floral button that has most of the gold gilt still on it. The last two coins for the day was a nice 1871 semi-key indian and a toasted indian. I spent a total of about 45 minutes there.

TODAY...I was hoping for a real good day of hunting after work. That was exactly what I got. I started right where I left off and the coins started piling in. I was hitting Large Cent after Large Cent for about an hour. I was totally stupified by the productivity of this site. I ended up getting a 1866 2-cent sometime between the LCs. I was really starting to wonder with all the coins in the ground if some silver may be lying in there somewhere. I finally got that perfect silver dime tone right on top of the ground, and it was a beauty of a 1853 Seated Dime. Shortly after the dime I ended up getting that perfect fatty indian signal and it ended up being ANOTHER 1858 Flying Eagle. Coin wise I ended the hunt with a new personal record of 7 Large Cents in one hunt (previously 5).

The find of the day came before my last two Large Cents. I thought for sure it was going to be another 2-cent by the size of it in the hole. I was filming it on camera and it just looked different. After taking it home I realized that I had an 1860 Stephen A. Douglas Presidential Campaign token. He ran against Lincoln and lost. It is still in great shape minus the pictures on both sides of the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Nominees.

This was the most thrilling and exciting hunt I have ever had. It will take a miracle to top the productivity of this site. Now what am I going to do the rest of the year

I made a video of the hunt but it was on an actual camera and it is going to be a pain to try and get it uploaded for you guys.

EPIC hunt! WTG! I've had a field that I'm thinking of hitting. Now I might just go & do it after seeing these finds!

Seeing some of the finds on this forum as of late is what drove me to get in a field myself!

Nice haul of mid 19th century coins! I'm a little surprised more buttons didn't turn up. You will probaly dig a nice CW button on your next trip.

Keep coming back. That is a dream hunt for sure.

Awsome digging! What a great home site looks like your research paid off, congratulations! :occasion14:
