Looks like it says 7.62x39...that's the caliber SKS rifles and most AK rifles fire. Most is foreign made, but I'm not familiar with the headstamp off hand. It's rusted because most of it is steel cased.

badkharma might be right too. Could be a "39" after viewing expanded pix.

The second pic looks to have a 76 stamp also. That would be production year, so almost certainly military surplus that was sold off.

Spanish MDL 1916 used by Guardia Civil chambered in 7.52?
Not that I have ever heard. They were originally in 7mm or 8mm Mauser chambering (7.92mm) but as surplus many had a 7.62mm bore and barrel stamping and were converted to 7.62x51mm (.308 NATO).

Your case is definitely 7.62mm Russian (7.62 x 39mm)

True, so very true!

My M1916 Spanish Mauser is chambered in 7.62×51 NATO, my M1893 Spanish Mauser is chambered in 7mm, and my Spanish CETME M85 C is chambered in 7.62x51 NATO also.

I think the poster meant 7.62 and typed 7.52, I can't even find a 7.52 based ammo with a quick internet check.
