I had no intention of detecting today but my wife announced she was going to her mother and father’s house for coffee and cake this afternoon and asked if I wanted to go, we already had a nice lunch with them of duck and chicken with all the good German fixings and I had my dose of In-Laws for the day so I said no and would go detect for 1.5 hours. Had to promise I would not be seen detecting, some crazy German thing I do not understand so I went to the top of a hill where a farm once stood. It was -2C/28F, snowing and a strong wind up here, I was only able to detect for about 45 minutes as the wind was cutting through me. We took our dogs for a nice long walk earlier in the day and went sled riding with my daughter but I did not anticipate this kind of cold detecting. Here’s the field I detected, the white one, LOL!

I only dug about 10 targets, the ground is not frozen but it is suppose to drop down to -8C/17F this evening, very unusual. Hope to get out for a short hunt tomorrow but we will see. The finds, not many but interesting! A barbed looking clothes hook, broken at the right end, a small buckle that I did not research and do not know the age and a hasp with some hand made engraving. The engraving is to the right and left of the hole and at the bottom. I am using my daughters camera as I left my camera on the other side of Germany. It is a Canon A450 Powershot 5.0 Megapixel and I do not like it.

And an appropriate Easter find, a figure of Jesus in very nice condition. His arms are bent a little forward, has some nice detail but the camera does not show them. If I can’t detect tomorrow I might clean up the figure. Amazing how many of these I have found, 8-10 for sure but today was a special find! Dating it I would say mid to late 1800s. HH, Mike

Very nice find(s). You are a detecting nut :icon_sunny: I could not imagine going out in those temperatures, let alone walking thru snow to detect. You Da Man.

Congrats on those nice finds, and for veturing out in that weather.
If I had been asked to my in-laws, I would have picked the snow and MDing too.

Happy Easter Mine from across the pond. :) Your right, the perfect Easter find.

Great find Mike! Something similar happened to me several years ago. It was the saturday evening before Easter, I had just recieved a 3" coil for my Tesoro and wanted to try it out. I was fairly sucessful on the hunt but as I was walking back to my car, I recieved a faint signal so I decided to dig. At approx 6" I found a pin with the clasp missing and I couldn't read what it said. Upon returning home, I cleaned the pin and my legs became weak. The message on the pin was "HE IS RISEN". Why I was destined to find this pin at this time only God knows and the message is so true.

I admire your fortitude, Mike, hunting with that much snow. Jesus was an amazingly coincidental Easter find also. HH

thats die hard detecting there for sure ! but glad you got out and super finds congrats

That is too cool, at least two folks found Jesus on Easter! :D I am too much of a cold weather wimp to go out in conditions like that myself but it looks like it paid off for you. Great finds! Congrats

Good finds for 45 min !!!! I KNOW that field and the wife laughed when she seen the hill in the back ground. I have already been eyeballing every field in that area. Dang Postal service is soo slow... Can't wait for my MD to get here. Hopefuly by then, this weather will pass and I will not have to be Carhartted out from head to toe. Keep us posted on you finds!!!

Nice find Mike. That looks like the same weather we are having in the States. I woke this morningand it was 16 above. Still waiting for warmer weather.

Thanks all, appreciate the nice comments! It is a great rewarding hobby. HH, Mike

Nice crucifix Mike,

How old would you estimate it to be. It's a sure sign of God to find one of those on Easter. I would have went out also lol.

Nice finds.

Is that a plateau? I thought Bavaria was steep and mountainous. Alps and all that.

Ugh. Same here. 20ºF. I tried to free-up a sticking gate Sunday and had to use a pick-axe to loosen the ground so I could shovel a clear arc. "No detecting today" thought I.

BBRRRRRR! I don't know how you do it! :D But what an awesome find on such a holy day. :)

Congrats! Nana
