I had no intention of detecting today but my wife announced she was going to her mother and father’s house for coffee and cake this afternoon and asked if I wanted to go, we already had a nice lunch with them of duck and chicken with all the good German fixings and I had my dose of In-Laws for the day so I said no and would go detect for 1.5 hours. Had to promise I would not be seen detecting, some crazy German thing I do not understand so I went to the top of a hill where a farm once stood. It was -2C/28F, snowing and a strong wind up here, I was only able to detect for about 45 minutes as the wind was cutting through me. We took our dogs for a nice long walk earlier in the day and went sled riding with my daughter but I did not anticipate this kind of cold detecting. Here’s the field I detected, the white one, LOL!
I only dug about 10 targets, the ground is not frozen but it is suppose to drop down to -8C/17F this evening, very unusual. Hope to get out for a short hunt tomorrow but we will see. The finds, not many but interesting! A barbed looking clothes hook, broken at the right end, a small buckle that I did not research and do not know the age and a hasp with some hand made engraving. The engraving is to the right and left of the hole and at the bottom. I am using my daughters camera as I left my camera on the other side of Germany. It is a Canon A450 Powershot 5.0 Megapixel and I do not like it.
And an appropriate Easter find, a figure of Jesus in very nice condition. His arms are bent a little forward, has some nice detail but the camera does not show them. If I can’t detect tomorrow I might clean up the figure. Amazing how many of these I have found, 8-10 for sure but today was a special find! Dating it I would say mid to late 1800s. HH, Mike
