After yesterday’s sun, this morning we were back to a far more normal misty damp morning, so we headed back off to the Court House site.

And boy did it keep us busy! We dug 37 scrappy bits of lead plus the usual musket balls, a gorgeous livery button, made by Armfield of Birmingham. 2 lead weights joined together, Spindle whorl, a very small lid, I think it says Sour on it?

My first coin was a silver hammered, then a Cartwheel Penny, and a 1921 penny. While we were digging a gorgeous pair of horses and carriage went by, so I got a couple of lovely pics. Am loving the tiny mushrooms, they are everywhere so took some more pics and the dew on the cobwebs was also so pretty.

The only downside to this hobby I can see is the poor worms 😬 I feel so bad when I accidentally decapitate them 😔

Looks like a Lizzy Half Groat.
You have a Lead pot mend to some 17th C Pottery, didn't realise they were still doing that in this period.
You have a 14th C Medieval Buckle & 1 of the Lead Weights could be Roman.

A few weeks back I saw a similar 'horse and carriage' on the edge of the next field going up a very steep grass hill, very impressive the power they have!

You needn't worry much about the worms. Worms are pretty cool creatures that when cut in half can heal and grow into two worms!

Great detail on the mushrooms and finds...that button is the cream of the crop! Beautiful presentation.

When they fired clay pots in the Roman & Medieval times & it blow a hole in firing, instead of chucking it they would press lead into the gap & spread it both sides. Often you can find its of the pot shards wedged in the lead gap. Sometimes you can see the thumb print of the guy pressing the lead into the gap.

Often you can find its of the pot shards wedged in the lead gap. Sometimes you can see the thumb print of the guy pressing the lead into the gap.
