With the snow melting out I have been able to start hiking again. While out looking for shed moose antlers I came across this lonely hidden cabin in the mountains. Abandoned over 100 years it is still standing, safely tucked in away from the worst of the wind.
Thank you! Yes an outbuilding of sorts. Still some jars in the windowsill. There was a hole in the roof for a stove pipe and a trap door in the floor so Im not sure what it’s purpose was.
Yes it’s a miner’s cabin. There is a prospect just out of frame to the left. It is much off the beaten path, so can’t say if any hikers stayed in it over the years. Pack rats sure have though! Our ground is still frozen up there so no detector on this trip. Might go back sometime and swing around the area. Thanks guys!
Wow, that is like going back in time, what a wonderful find and incredible photo. Bet you could dig some good finds around that site. Thanks for sharing!
Mud, best guess is a hastily constructed small living quarters or a kitchen of sorts. There is evidence that it once had a stove in the corner and a small trap door in the middle of the floor, with a small shelf in the hole. I’m guessing they stored food down there.
