another odd button find

I found this, some broken kettle parts, and some broken horse shoes while looking for a confederate camp that's not well documented, way out in what is now a heavily wooded and tick infested area. To me it bears a strong resemblance to a pelican but is just different from the typical Louisiana buttons I'm familiar with.

Any insight is much appreciated.

Not a button per se. It could be a cockade fastener.

Do a search on ' "Civil war" cockades ' to see what I mean.

Sometimes they used buttons in the center. Others fastened with 'tabs' like on your relic.

I googled "Civil war" cockades, ....not what I was expecting, but I think DCMatt could be right.

Well even if that's not what it is, I learned something.

It hit me today, I'll bet it was a button from a fancy pair of spurs.
