Was such a nice weather day today!!! I just *had* to go for an "official" walk! I went to the remotest end of a cornfield. (Hoping to eliminate the clad curse.)

I walked and I swung....for 4 hours!!!! Finally, I got a fair to middlin hit. I dug down about 9 inches! 86 !! A quarter!!!

.......................clad. :BangHead:

And it was my *ONLY* find!!! :dontknow:

I gave up and started home. OTWBTTC.....
I got a decent hit.....another *CLAD* quarter!
Then I found what looks like a flattened bullet.
At this point I started forming my subject line for today's post. :(

When the gloom is darkest...a light shined! Little one....but light never the less.

Got a hit....86....deeper....I said "....yay....another clad. :dontknow: ( kinda was psyched out by this clad curse.)

But....guess what? I *was* "on the way back to the car". So.....

Curse.....busted!

*really*!?!?
Not much...but I'll take it!

FINALLY! A coin that ain't a clad!!!!

This is the best I can get. In person, I can see a "7" at the end. So....therefore....this is officially a 1917 type 2 SLQ with an "s" mint mark! :tongue3:

Thanks for peeking!

Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!.........:)

I would be thrilled for a silver find...I also have the clad curse but mine may have more to do with lack of research and getting out...check with the coin experts on that 1917? SLQ...it may be a valuable year...
Thanks for sharing....4 hours is a long time!

Nice walk! I have seen times when a clad coin would make my day!

I’m inclined to agree with that. Anything other than a pull tab or bottle cap is a successful day for me.
Very nice recoveries.

In almost a half century, I've learned to deal with the feast/famine of this "hobby". Its just over the last few years I've hunted a very large place. Lots of venues. Farm fields, woods, meadows, sports fields, houses, etc. But no matter which I tried, could not even find a dilapidated wheatie!!! Just clad and memorials. It has worn on me. Just flat tired of "new"! :BangHead:

This simple SLQ? Finally breaks this clad curse! :hello2:

Thanks!

Nice hunting, Sir WIF. Looks like you made Fishy happy.

I'm honoured, milady!

Poor Blingie though. He's so blinded by shiny, shiny that he misses out on some good stuff. :tongue3:

That coin would definitely be worth the 4 hours to me. Nice save; such a great coin. Congrats!

I swear, more quarters from a cornfield. How do you do it? Nothing in our farm fields but rusted farm equip. parts. You must be hunting in a "quarter section" of ground.:icon_thumleft: Gary

How do I do it? Well, I guess it starts with my perspective then my stubbornness.

When I see a cornfield, I always envision how they got planted for all those years! I simply *know* that people lose coins! So I *know* there *ARE* coins out there! Few and far between, to be sure! But, they *are* there!

My trouble has been that I'm constantly finding the modern, "Joe Smith's" errant clad instead of Alouwishes P. Cornpone's 200 year old coinage! :tongue3:

It does take a "specially tuned" ear. Mine seems to be tuned more to clad.

But, more to the point, by my "knowing" that coins *are* there....helps me to keep trying.
BTB I do find the rusty parts as well.
That help any?

Thanks!

You should post your rusty parts, so us rusty nail experts can see. :tongue3:
