My wife has applied like 4 times. She wants to surprise me....but has yet to win the lottery.

I have applied twice so far and still have not been picked and I’ve had family members apply for me too

I applied as well as a friend. My name was never drawn but my friends was. Turns out he did not want to go so he sold his on E-Bay. Boy was I PISSED. "Antique Roadshow forbids that." I contacted them with ticket number and whole 9 yards. Their response was "Oh well", apply again. Made me sour on them for a few years after that. I enjoyed the items and history, just hated them for this attitude. They only get in our area maybe every five years. I had a set of 5 Paul Revere silver coin spoons I wanted looked at.

Unless you've got art that is done by a noted artist that you can find information on the internet about. That be the one to take. If it's done by an unknown artist, odd are very high it's not worth any more than a decorative value. The line for paintings is huge. So many people think they've got an unknown masterpiece, but the odds of that I'd say are one in a million imo.

I tried a few times with no luck. I don't really have anything that i don't already know the value of so i would just go to see all the cool stuff.

I went to the one here in Orlando about two or three years ago. It was for a three episode series. Actually, I did not win tickets, but I did receive a follow up email from the University Of Central Florida, asking me if I wanted to be a volunteer. Basically, ushering the ticket holders to their correct item/s booth. My neighbor and a co-worker did win tickets, and it was fun seeing them there. It was a lot of fun seeing all of the "treasures"! The volunteers were given a wonderful complimentary breakfast and lunch. Great Food.

I became very good friends with the team leader, and at the end of the event, when no more people were in line, she allowed the volunteers with items, to go and have them appraised. We even received an Antiques Roadshow polo shirt. I tried my best to be on camera. When something good was being filmed for the t.v. episodes, I would do my best to pass by the camera, as I was ushering someone to their booth, and casually glanced over expecting to be filmed. Unfortunately I was not. :-)

I had to wait almost a whole year for the Orlando episodes to be shown on t.v. I found out recently they will be in Sarasota this coming April 2018. I applied for tickets, but have not checked to see if I won any. I will try to at least go as a volunteer. Wish me luck.

With art, my main problem is identifying signatures. Besides not knowing anything about noted artists to begin with, lol.

I was on the show when they came to Charleston SC. We had a good time. I had some ambrotypes of my ancestors from the Confederacy. They put me with an photographica expert from NY instead of the civil war militeria expert. She appraised them as plain 19th century images. She didn't really consider that they were Confederates with their weapons. Still had fun and got to meet some neat folks. Extremely well organized and structured.

Huh? Have you ever seen the show before?

Sure I've been watching it for years. I've also attended an antique roadshow event. What's your point.?

After the 2017 St. Louis, MO taping, KETC did a special interview with the executive producer that was as informative as the show itself. It was very interesting to learn how they go about choosing which items appear on camera. It's not necessarily about the item itself nor its value, but the story behind the item.
If they think you know too much about the item and are more or less there to show it off you can forget about appearing on camera.
As we all know there is no buying or selling on the floor; it is considered unethical for appraisers to make deals with the attendees but they are allowed to have their brochures available in a separate area of the main floor.
I much prefer the format of the Antiques Roadshow Great Britain. There is no lottery, you just show up with your goodies.

Never been or applied to the Roadshow but we live not to terribly far from Skinner auction house. We have twice taken several items to be appraised by two experts who are both regulars on Antiques Roadshow. All for free and they were very pleasant to meet and deal with.

Wow....that football trophy is amazing. Did you keep it? I'm pretty sure I remember when you found the candlesticks.

My mom and i applied. Neither got picked though.

Until I get anything worth taking I'll just stay home and watch it on tv while avoiding the crowd...lol

Well the reason I asked is that I was selected for the Sarasota show on April 12th. 12th time is the charm!!! I am planning on going and have an extra ticket. Beach and Cheech are both Floridians and have been supporters of my posts so I wanted to see if one of you would like to join me. If both are interested then I guess I will do a random drawing. Just let me know.
