any collector value in 40%er's?

I am getting a few that look almost as good as say the 2009 I got last week. If they were s marked I would think they were proof's. clean and shiny right out of someone's collection.

Myself, I would put them in a cardboard flip if they looked that good. You can always take them out, roll em up and sell them for the melt value. Just my opinon,

Yes, save the real nice 40%ers that you get in 2 X 2's and then put them in a Dansco
Coin Album N0#7000 named "coins". Mark the date you received them on the back of the 2 X 2. Creates a little history for you. They make a nice presentation for you to save and hand
down in the family. Especially the 1965's and 1966's as they were the lowest mintage. Sooner or later they will all disappear or get melted down. Not worth much in our lifetime, but the next generation may benefit. I'm a collector and have put together some nice books for my children and future grandchildren all locked up in safe deposit boxes. Just think if someone in 1895 put together a nice book of uncirculated Halves what it would be worth today.

The only thing that worries me about the future numismatic value is that I've been to countires that no longer HAVE coins. Just got back from Belarus 7 days ago. The lowest denomination they have now is 10 rubles, and that is a bill, not a coin. Mostly I carried 50,000 and 20,000 ruble bills in my wallet for the week. Ridiculous, but that is what happens in an inflationary country that devalues their currency (america beware!!) Coins "from the old days"are thrown around by children at times, but useless (The ratio is 2,985 rubles to $1, so each ruble is worth 0.000335 of a dollar. So a "quarter" is worth 0.0000837. ouch!)

The interest in coin collecting went to zero there after coins started to be worthless and disappear. NOt that it was as big as america ever, but it went to zero.

I see in america a significant drop in coin collecting already. the rarer big value coins are actually UP right now, but the normal good looking 1965 half? Not worth much more than melt, unless slabbed, graded, and over MS62. I think that with the inflation of the future there WILL come a point where we discontinue the penny, and eventually all the coins. Or have new currency, one or the other. And i think coin collecting, of "those old worthles coins" will go WAY south. Rare ones may hold up for a while (a generation) but common coins, even in good shape? Going to be worth nothing above the intrinsic value of ... nothing.

Just my opinion. :-)

And that doesn't stop me from collecting Whitman books for ME, and trying to get all the pennies and nickels, and even have a few dme and quarter books. :-)

Our post-1970 coin has been worthless for quite awhile now. There will always be a ready market for any silver coin, (my opinion). I like seeing the nice, shiny 40%, but I always ship 'em out.
Take any common, dull, listless silver coin and drop it in a chemical cleaner. Take it out after a few moments. In an instant, you will behold a beautiful, uncirculated-looking coin.

Any coin with silver will keep having value for a long time, and most of our circulating coinage would only be devalued to 18% of its former purchasing power (for dimes, quarters, Ike dollars and post-1970 halves) and Nickles would be worth actually more than 5 cents in purchasing power, zinc cents would only be devalued by half and copper cents would double in purchasing power. The nice thing about the US at the moment is that the circulating coins wouldn't become completely worthless if(when) our fiat system collapses.

Its true that if it collapses few people are going to be paying more for a MS-65 40% than a VF 40%, but that silver content means that it will always have purchasing power and will always have value no matter what the economic times are today or in the future.

There are some error coins to look for. Get a copy of the Cherry Pickers Guide and check online for which ones to look for. In mint state condition they can be worth some good money. I have found a number of them and saved them as numismatic finds. Keeps it interesting
