This was found in a ladies yard which is literally 55 feet from a civil war fort (however I am not implying this is a civil war era piece). I only found half. On the front it would have said Louisville, Ky (Ky stamped twice). Pics of front and back

possibly some sort of name plate..the broken end may look like the remaining part your holding

I'm not sure what it is, but it sure looks like a cool treasure! Hopefully you'll find the other half of it during a future hunt! I've got faith that your trusty XLT will find it if it's close by.

Looks like a civil war id tag to me- or later. civil war ones were hand made

i dunno, but best guess is a id tag also, world war 2 ones i hear are worth alot, and look similar to this one you have, so if a civil war even if half of it should be worth some money, if you found the other side i bet you could get it back together somehow to make it look better, good find either way, looks old to me , good luck

Judging from the stamped letters. It appears to be Civil War era (not necessarily FROM the Civil War) but could be later as well. I think I can I.D. this. Let me do some ra-search and I will post in a while. .....It does look like an I.D. Tag HOWEVER, the eyehole is peculiar. It is all around an odd shape for an I.D. Tag but it could very well be...

Some sort of tag but defenatly not war related civel war tags were round and many were made from old worn out silver and copper coins

maybe a foot locker for a captain or something

The "L I X" could stand for "54" in Roman numbering, maybe from 1854 (?) The dot stamped before it confuses me though. Neat find.

It is definitely 2 sided, the bottom pic(reverse) has LLE K.Y. maybe it said Louisville and the J.W.W was the persons initials....just my 2nd feeble attempt to help out.:)

could it be an old style shoe horn?

I really have no idea as to what it is, but as an outside guess, maybe it's half of the top of a bracelet. The other half would have the rest of the inscription, plus maybe the chain to hold it on the wrist. Just a guess.
Hope you find out what it is.

LIX would be 59 in Roman numerals.

Could be the oldest know zipper-pull ever found! ;D

Very interesting - keep us updated...

I guess we all Agree it is strange. Civil War Dog Tags were INDEED round. That is what makes these so weird; the shape. Well I am sure we will figure it out soon.

Don't jump to the conclusion that all civil war id tags were round. These guys could basically make them from anything. I have seen oval ones so this could possibly be an odd shaped one which would make it even more rare if it is authenticated as an id tag. Good luck.
