Any way to clean copper?

Found what appears (from scrape mark from my digger) to be round piece of copper, slightly thinner than a dime, and the circumference of a baseball. It's well covered with something. Any sure way to clean it?

Also, found a horseshoe....6 inches down.....rang up as 32 on my X-terra 705. This machine continues to baffle me.

If anyone was to offer cleaning advice without seeing a picture, that's advice you should ignore. Everything is different so a picture is important, but if it's something you are very sure you don't care much about a description of the condition would help for suggestions.

Assuming it was dug up, it could almost be anything so until you have more info on what it could be I'd just wait and when you do proceed take your time and do it right. You may just want to clean it until you get some details without removing patina. It depends on what it is so like the earlier poster said - a picture would help get you the proper help.

Cleaning not recommended with coins.Salt and vinager or catchup.
