Anyone recognize this?

I found this detecting a few days ago and still haven't figured out exactly what it is. I'm thinking its part of some kind of pump but I'm not positive.

Oh yeah. It came from a kids camp but at the turn of the last century it was alongside a logging railroad track.

top of a hand pump for a water well ?

for some reason also looks like a industrial thermostat housing also

My first thought was thermostat housing but it has a bib for water to come through and outside the housing. I am liking the hand pump for water.
