A vaccine is reasonably safe as long as a given body provided an antigen develops an immunity to something worse for the body than what the vaccine contains. Obviously if someone is compromised / messed up or allergic it's not a model of anything considered safe.

Little in life is safe.
There were folks that contracted polio that were likely to have rather weighed the risk of a vaccine before it was available , that contracting polio..
3 (?) countries remain where polio is still alive and well. Is it worth (safer) not vaccinating for?
Like other diseases , post infection symptoms vary and remain after. Stuff that can be weighed against vaccination risks , where risks can be determined.

The alternative is risk of infection.
When infection risks outweigh vaccination risks , choose the better odds.
