OK, not quite sure, a possible is Knute Heldner. I just logged and saw this picture, so research that and I will look around on the web a bit. Not quite his style although he did do some etchings. Something about that picture, you may have something really good there.

I looked a bit, Heldner did do dry point etchings in that style so to me that looks right. Of coarse I can not see the etching proof in real life to make a solid assertion. Initialed when sketched, looks like the signature was added at a later time, not that uncommon. Does the picture just happen to have a signature on the back ?

No signature on back ... HOWEVER .. You nailed it potsherd_creek. Following up on your information I did find an etching by Heldner and the signature is an exact match.
What looked to me to be Holdmen is as you said Heldner, sure pays to ask and get opinions....

I enjoyed looking. You can tell southern Louisiana, spanish moss, Mississippi river or a bayou or possibly the Gulf in the background, he was a skilled artist.
