Boy what a day Rick and I had out on one of the fields we have recently been given permission to hunt. It was a stunning day from the moment we drove up to the field and saw a mother dear and her small fawn in one of the fields, unfortunately we couldn't get the camera out fast enouph to get a pic of them. It was 0630, the air was freash and clear, the sun was out and it was a perfect temp for hunting, you just don't get it any better then that.
We started out and Rick had got his first copper up with in a few minutes when I notice on top of the hill a small mound so I told Rick I was heading up there to check it out. Sure enouph it was a cellar hole. When Rick had noticed I was hanging around one area he wasn't long heading up the hill and on his way he found a 19 century 6 silver pence. (don't know how I missed that going up the hill). We were getting hits left and right and Rick was killing it on the coppers I was holding my oun though with the relics. by 10:30 it was time to head to the van for a break and on the way down Rick got a signal and dug up a 2nd officers Artillery button (1790-1802) Wow! So I started to head down the hill again when I got a target, and I too dug an identical officers botton, yippy!
So far in the last week or so Rick and I together have got 43 coppers, we have been having a ball.
I also dug up a cannon, Ram rod thimble, one meen looking enfield bullet, pistal ball and some other goodies.

After a full day of hunting we just had to stop at the pup for an ice cold beer on the patio and just soak it all in.

HH everyone,

nice finds congrats HH

You guys are on an incredible roll Dave! That looks like a decent sized field so I'm sure there's more to be found. A tight grid pattern is definitely in order. By the way, what's that large item in the lower right of the 2nd pic?

Is that a napoleon 6 pounder lol haha nice finds!!!

Looks like a great site. Gives me a case of artifact envy! :happysmiley: <---- Green with envy smiley face!

Thanks Bill, the digging was murder today, the gound is very clay and it has been dry so we had to call it early and go to the pup to recuperate but we will be back, and back, and back but we are suffering from Hunt Site Overload right now. We have fields with cellar holes we have yet to hit either because they are just planted or the grass is too high. As we drove up to the farm today the first field we were going to hit had just been planted, this field turned into plan B because it had just been cut and bailed.
The big piece on the bottom right is some brass horse bling, found it stuck between two large rocks.

Great stuff! I think you have a discarded artillery coat there, and that won't be the last of those buttons you'll recover.

Congrats to both of you! I have wanted to dig one of those toy cannon from Day One, and never managed to get my coil over one yet. That's a great find in its own right.

Cheers,

Buckles

Nice finds Zodiacdiver.

This could very easily be the theme to an 80's "It doesn't get any better than this" beer commercial.

Congrats.

Oh man...you're killing me! A cannon is on my most wanted list!

MAN look at all those coppers! WTG! Killer hunt!

I love finding those cannons, I don't get them that often & rarely as nice as that one. In fact I gave my last good one to the farmer to off-set some other great finds. He liked it to!

Thanks Buck, I agree the rest of the coat and hopefully pocket contents are still there. I want to go back as soon as possible and hopefully after a good rain soaking.

Congrats.
The only thing I think I would add to a day like that is a little yella in the pouch.:icon_thumleft:

We are going to have to get you down there with us, there buddy.
Dave

Thanks Cru. This was on my most wanted list so I am going to hang on to this one, however my next trip down there I will be bringing the farmer a big bag of scallops from my last scallop dive for his kindness.:icon_thumright:
