They where also called an annam.I have found handfuls of these in northern California especially in the gold rush country.They are always fun to find!

Spooky is correct, its a Chinese Cash Coin.
Clean it up a bit and check here. You may be surprised how old it is, but has little monetary value.

I can almost guarantee it will match up with one of the coins on my posted chart.
If it was cleaned up, I could ID it for you.
The left pic has the mint, the right pic the dynasty, emperor & reign.
Peroxide bath? Match the right pic to the chart.
