So i take the batteries out of the at pro to change them out for the first time and bang onto the ground it falls and breaks some small plastic off...no big deal put new batteries in went to put it back together and the stupid tube slides out again and lands on the floor ...bang breaks the top right off the battery pack holder ...now im waiting on glue to dry instead of hunting way to go garrett you put alot of thought into the battery holder...pfft

Guess I'll keep that in mind when mine comes in the mail.

I bet if you call Garrett they'll tell you to take a hike on bottlecap trail, too. lol

I bought a spare right away after getting my ATP. It's a pretty weak design but could be made much better by just changing the type of plastic used.
Next time tilt the detector so the pack falls into box then lock into place. It can't fall up!

Have you ever talked to garrett? they would bend over backwars to help you with there product they would send me a new 1 without question if i bothered them with this problem but i wont because its not worth the time to order another faulty piece of plastic that will do the same thing...i will go on ebay and buy the 4 pack for 15 bucks because its an inferior product that is going to be prone to breaks...as for your bottle cap trail hike theory i think you could do better with insults ive heard first graders come up with better

Right it just needs some extra care like a little baby but i didnt know that since i havent had it very long but now i do and it wont happen again

Yes, well you're naught suppose to drop it now are ya mate? :dontknow:

Yes, I have noticed this little flaw and I am very careful.

An AT Pro huh? Well, got that first drop over with, and second l.o.l.. Scratches and adventures follow. Hope you have lots of great finds with your new detector.
I know they need to be tough for my use, but willing to bet you,re going to be easier on your latest for a while.

Dang......that sucks! They are kind of fragile. Call Garrett 1 800 527 4011 and they will send you a new one. If you live near a Radio Shack or other major electronics or hobby store, they may carry those. Just make sure you have the correct size. In the mean time, I hope the quick fix works for you.

Good luck!

As I am sure Garrett does not manufacture the holders...it would be hard for me to put the blame on them.
Many things can go wrong in the molding process which many had made the one you have a bit more brittle than it should have been.
I have been using that type of holder for over 20 years, not only in Garrett products but others also and have never had a failure. In the 8 cell holder, when the manufactures had to thin out the side tabs, I thought it was going to be a problem, but it was not. The thinning was due to the physical size of the newer, larger capacity NICad and mpw NiMH batteries hitting the upper limits. When I first went to the NiMH in my Infinium I could not get the battery pack out of the detctor. It was because of the new cells larger physical size over the original NICads Garrett supplied with the Infinium. I bought new thinner wall holders from Radio shack and have not had one bit of a problem since.
I am positive Garrett will take care of you when and if you call them.

Dusty I would call Garrett and get the replacement; you'll have a good one and the one you fixed. I guess I have been lucky and haven't broken anything yet.

That statement is pointless.

Garrett will always replace these things with no questions asked.

As for the battery pack, I dont get how you keep dropping it so much...lol

Ive had mine for 3 years now and never dropped it.

If you are replacing the batteries, its probably better to lay the machine down so gravity doesn't kick in and it falls out when you take it off.

the one thign i did hate was knowing what side i was supposed to put it back in. I had to write on mine to let me know if it was the top or not

good luck...Garrett will replace that in a heartbeat

An I phone doesn't have to look and feel like a modern technological miracle, It would work just as well if it felt like a cheap plastic piece of garbage. Apple just wouldn't sell as many.....

But many of you keep buying AT pros and peripherals....

The first time I held an AT pro I was flabbergasted at how cheap it felt.... I can't attest for the actual function or water protection it provides, but wow that thing feels like it should cost about $20.00
If it was built with a semblance of pride and more substantially thought out the case and peripheral components would not feel and look so cheap.

Its funny you say that...Because it was my first impression too...I figured it would "Look" a little more upscale, or sophisticated. But I think it was actually lighter than the ACE 250

with all that said.

It STILL has amazed me on how accurate and deep it finds targets. I could careless if it looks cheap or if it were neon orange.

All that matters is how it performs, and its been proven a great machine.

But i totally agree that it does feel and look like a toy sometimes..lol

Go direct top Garrett and they will most likely send you a couple free of charge. The ones on eBay DO NOT WORK they are about 1/16th of an inch shorter and will not make contact. I bought a couple and ended up tossing them both.

I bought 4 of the holders on Ebay , gave 2 to an ATP friend and have one in the pouch and one in the truck. No problem ///Perry

Wow that's some bad luck. The at pro is anything but a cheap detector. I've dropped my pro in the river and creeks around here and still works fine. I always lay my detector down when changing batteries because that holder will fly out if you don't. This machine keeps amazing me on its depth and VDI accuracy. Good luck and have fun.

About 4 or 5 wks ago I had a battery holder break when it fell to the ground. It happened on a saturday afternoon. I called on monday and talked to a wonderful lady at Garrett, explained to her what had happened and ask if I could purchase a couple of spares. She took my address and I had 2 NEW battery holders in the mail by wednesday, NO CHARGE!!. Garrett customer service is AWESOME!!!!
