Today was one of my best day detecting since i started. I found my first Spanish silver, a 8 reale at that. It is my first silver with my AT Pro and first 1700's coin with a readable date. I also found today a 1944 wheat penny, 2 gardeners and a brass zero or o that i dont know what it is? Tuesday i found a nice flat button with treble gilt in large font and a headbadge to a ward hawthorne flyer bicycle. Last friday i found two very nice New York Officer Staff buttons one was missing the back but both are a great find since all the bullets in the area seem to be confederate. I also found 2 gardeners near by. The week before i was on a different property were i have found many gardeners and found 7 more, all 3 varieties of the 58 caliber bullet! Thanks for looking and HH!

I LOVE the firefighter button, because I am a firefighter, myself. And the reale does look fake. When you dug it, did it look like silver coins usually do or did you have to scrub it to make it look like it does?

It looked silver, a little tarnished looking but all i did was run it under water to clean it.

Looking at the coin i can see at the date the 9 looks like its over an 8 and the 1 looks like its over a 7 or a 1. But on the bust the nose doesnt hook down like the real coin and the mouth and chin look wrong as well. On the reverse all the letters have on outline around them.

Congrats on the 8! Counterfeit or not, still a cool find. I am definitely leaning toward counterfeit though now that I see it on the computer. The bust is just totally different looking. Bring it in Monday so I can get a good look at that thing. I see what people are saying about it maybe not being silver. Just from the looks of it, it looks like other dug counterfeit silver coins that are made of pewter or other types of metal or plated. You know as well as I do though that thing is old since it was dug where it was and most likely is silver.

We may get a gold coin out of there yet! lol Wishful thinking.

Great finds! You have a fastener/lock plate for a carpet bag. There is plenty more there!

Great finds! I also have an AT PRO but, thus far, have used it mainly for water hunting. I'm curious, as I also live in the Valley - how deep were most of these finds?

I have dug real 8 real's,now I need a c.f.,well done!!!

Thanks! The gardeners were 6 to 8 inches and some had good tones but had a 03-05 vdi? The wheat penny and 8 reale was 4 feet apart and both 3-4" deep.

Thanks. Were the fakes made at about the same time?

Thanks man!!! It is defiantely silver, its heavy for its size. Along the rim there is either writing on it or its air bubbles from were it was made. The obverse and reverse are facing the same way not like modern coins when you flip it the reverse is upside down. There is more to be found there for sure!

Yep. The obverse and reverse are both right side up. That's how they were on the 2 I found. The cut on that thing is very interesting...

I had it set up on pro coins iron disc on 35 all notches turned on. It came in around 68 to 75 solid tone.
Airtest it...should read above 80 on the AT pro.

Yea the cut is all jagged. All the cut silver ive seen are almost perfect. I couldnt find to many conterfiet old 1791 8 reales. How rare are the fakes and are they valueable?
