Auburn/colfax ancient riverbeds?

Hey folks... Are there any "open to public" ancient riverbeds that I can detect at in the auburn area?

I live in near there, GAH but we ( the man and I) don't own a detector yet.

Sometimes in spots that get beeped a lot there's a common ferrous dump pile. I've come across a couple of them in known areas and suspect that's what they are when in a pile.
