Great stuff. Unfortunately, I don't find many old bullets or buttons. That teardrop bullet looks very cool.

Bob

What type of bullet is that in the last photo of your original post. I don't recall ever seeing anything like it in the projectiles book. Is it .44cal?

That is a 36 caliber Remington I believe. They are commonly referred to as teardrops. They were used by both sides during the CW.

Excellent find! I've never seen one before.

Gypsy, I am no bottle expert but would you know what the two matching bottles were used for? No writing exists on them but the top looks like it just uesed a cork stopper? No threads in the glass for a screw on type lid. Maybe it was the cure all { 100% alcohol} elixar the traveling salesman sold off the back of the wagon! Lol.

Now THAT is some serious metal detecting. Traveling with your own front end loader. ;D

Never have seen the 'tear drop' bullet before. Could you tell us (me) anything about it?

Thanks for sharing. Very interesint finds.

The (brass) oval slotted plate looks like its from a McClellen saddle.

Question for you...are those musket balls (or clay marbles)?

Ray that is a 36 caliber remington, used by both the US and the CS during the Civil War. The are often called teardrops. Worth anywhere from 6 to 12 bucks depending on condition. The are apparently rare to find the farther east you go. fairly common here in So. Mo. and Ar.

Stefan, those are 69 caliber lead balls.
