The sun was shining and the birds were singing - another great day to go detecting. Yep you guessed it I went back to the park again today and chalked up some more pre-decimal coins but no silver today. Another two pennies and four half-pennies today the earliest being 1916. I did however dig a few relics today which included a crucifix, pocket knife, cartridge case and what looks like the worlds biggest grease nipple.
My other surprise was Ernie. You know the drill - you're head down in a hole and then you see a pair of feet. I looked up and there was Ernie - a nice old chap who had seen me in the park, parked his car in a no parking zone and just came over for a chat. He was 83 years young and we had a yarn about coin collecting and detecting. Even Ernie suggested I go detect where they do the wedding photos. Yesterday it was the park workers and today Ernie - as much as I am resisting running a detector over the best looking bit of park in town I am weakening
You guessed it - I'm going back to the park tomorrow.

... Can't wait to see what you find on your next outing...
- Australia first minted its own coins in 1910. Up until 1901 we were still six independant British colonies using their coinage.
