The wife and kids were away so I decided to spend the whole day detecting. I spent about seven hours swings nice and slow and was rewarded with a good haul of pre-decimal coins and relics. Aside from a Girl Guide Badge, a Returned Servicemans League membership badge and a badge which turned out to be a cricketer (only identifiable after a lot of cleaning) I also found half a spoon and half a razor marked "Gem - Made in England, Pat 1912".

I went back the second day to find more coins including some really nice silver and funnily enough the other half of the spoon and razor. I also found what appeared to be a ring used to tie down a tent. From the location of some of the coins and other artifacts I figure that someone had set up camp here in the during WWII given the date of the coins in that location. Also found a nice little Aston Martin toy - oh for the real one ;D

The spoon had a hallmark on it which indicates that its made from coin silver (90%)

Sounds like and looks like you had a nice day of hunting.....Been awhile since I seen any posts from ya..glad to see ya back in here....HH and keep it up.

"looks like you cleaned this site up pretty good" - far from it I'm happy to say, I go real slow and careful so in 6 hours I may only cover an area of about 60 yards long and 24 yards wide - I've spent weeks in this place so far and the slower I go the better the results. All up I found close to 70 pre-decimals (not to mention clad, jewellery and artefacts) and have at least 40% of the park to go. ;D

"how do you clean your silver coins?" - I cut a lemon in half, stick the coins in, leave them in for half an hour, give a light brush with a soft bristled toothbrush, repeat if necessary and then rinse well and dry. Most of the time they come out sparkling.

Last weekend in the same area I found what appears to be a chewed musket ball (the park dates back to the 1850s) - a bored militia trooper maybe. Silver is always nice to find especially the big Florins, 28.5mm and 11.31 grams, but I do like finding badges as they tell more of a story of the history of the area.

Thanks for looking and for the comments ;D

Nice looking silver. I use lemon juice sometimes, never thought of sticking it in a real lemon. 8)
