I stopped at the local pawnshop this morning and found a cache of these. The pawnshop was selling them as reproductions from India.I know these are not authentic Native American artifacts, but was wondering how many unsuspecting people buy these for the real thing. image.webpimage.webp

Hundreds of them on eBay every day, I see some of them with bids, one born every minute!

They are pretty but I wouldnt ever buy one that I knew wasnt real. I wouldnt want my collection tainted is the reason why. I do buy collections once in a while when I have the extra cash and if I see a fake in the bunch I run from all of them.

These will get the sledgehammer after I'm done with them. I only bought them so I could hopefully learn how they are made, and be able to spot a fake.

I've been collecting since I was 5 years old. In my life, I've only bought 2 axes and 1 spear point when I was around 11 years old (a long time ago) for $25.00 from a neighbor. I never buy, never sell, never trade. Just find. Don't really know what I'll do with my collection when I leave this earth. Don't think I would sell it and definitely not give it to a university or museum. Anyway the above reproductions are pretty.

I occasionally hit antique stores, or see a listing on craigslist and more often than not I see those guys in the mix. So someone buys them.

They are pretty low end fakes, the material, workmanship and shape are dead give aways. If you want to see a much more difficult degree of faking, spend some time looking at eBay and the modern knapped pieces there. With a few exceptions, most of the nicer paleo points there are replicas.

If you have a rock tumbler, they polish up like agates (and no one would mistake them for ancient.)
