Relic Hunting
Four of us were going to hunt a new campsite today that has been producing some nice relics but two could not hunt today so we agreed we would hold off hunting that site until all four of us could hunt it. So Tnrelicman and I went back to our campsite that we have been hunting for quite some time. I must have dug 30 shotgun hulls before lunch. By early afternoon Guy had already found several bullets and a couple buttons. I was getting hot and tired and was about to call it quits when I got another good signal. Thinking it was another shotgun hull I was suprised to see a very nice Eagle cuff button. Then just a few feet away from there I got another good signal. I hollered over to Guy that I finally got my first bullet of the day. I swept the hole and got another signal. Another bullet. Then I saw three or four bullets laying in the dirt that I removed. I just kept getting signals in that little two foot square area. Some were very faint and deep. In all I pulled out 18 three ringers and one fired or carved or just a piece of camp lead. Need to clean to find out. It is late and I am tired so I will clean later. The button is in great shape and has a solid shank.

Nice job TH. Which coil were you using?

Because we were hunting deep in the woods and it was pretty brushy I used the 6x10 DD coil. It works well in there because it does not get hung up like the open coils do. When I am hunting in the fields or more open sites I love to use my 10x12 SEF coil. That is my primary coil.

TH - others have advised me to get an after-market coil for my MXT too, but haven't done it. I also have the 6x10 and use it in real trashy areas. I really like the 10" DD coil for open field relic hunting.

Nice digs. With that many deep bullets you may want to dig a bit deeper to make sure it isnt a shallow pit, hut, or firebox. You never know.

Mike (Woodland Detectors), Guy (Tnrelicman) and myself went back to the campsite yesterday and went straight to where I dug the 18 bullets. Mike used his GPX 5000 to see if there were any deeper targets. No more were found so we started hunting other parts of this very large property. We found several more bullets and a few buttons.

Nice lead and good job on that cuff button!!

Now thats just awesome!

Button cleaned up great Randy, sorry I missed this one!! Great save's,like the lead :icon_thumright:

Congrats on all the lead AND the button, A little off topic but maybe you all can answer this ?, last week i showed the cast I button i found and 3 Williams cleaners or parts there of, now for the question.....Two days later i went back and found 6 more bullits,All but one were Williams cleaners, and the only fired one could have been a cleaner too.! my question is did they throw away the cleaners ? or what,I've been told that they did because they thought those bullits messed up the barrels. Or could it have been that's all they had to use. This fight took place in late 64 and early 65. any thoughts Gentlemen and ladies Sorry so long. Greg
