First i would like to thank Bergie for his amazing generosity in inviting me up to New York to hunt with him and the guys. he put me on some absolutely awesome sites to hunt! i cant get over how beautiful New York State is in the fall. being in the woods at these early colonial sites this time of year really is pretty stunning! i`m going to have to post these finds in separate posts since i cant seem to figure out how to post pictures with text in between! ::) ( hey i can barely figure out my cell phone! ;D)
the first site we hit was an old camp ground where good stuff has been found in the past. we hunted for a few hours but we weren't really coming up with much. Bergie and I both managed a wheatie or two, Earthworks found a cool pocket watch, but that was about it. this site is huge and i have no doubt if we had more time we would have found something great!
we decided to go to another site. we had very good luck at this site. even though Bergie and the guys have hit this site hard in the past, Earthworks came out with two large cents, Goingdown found a King George II copper and Bergie found a very cool round ball!
after a few hours of swinging i get a signal. i dig down about 7 inches and out pops this 1733 King George II copper in pretty nice shape! i have only found two colonial coins prior to this so i was stoked!

i also found what i think is a round ball that has been smashed. it has a nice white patina and is definitely lead. it also has what looks like an arrow imprinted on it. could this be a British musket ball? i have no idea but i figured i would put it up here for the experts to look at! ;)

Hey, dude! Great having you up here for the visit and you nailed some great stuff over the two days. Don't forget to pay your NY State Tax on that stuff. I think Earthworks would be glad to personally collect and forward it :-)

Re: back from a weekend of detecting with Bergie, Earthworks and Goingdown

Day two started with Bergie and I searching that site that they found all of those large cents at a few weeks ago. it is the site of another old estate and the woods are massive! we hunted for a while with not a whole lot to show. we both found a button each. i also eyed an old intact milk bottle that i decided to bring home with me. after a few hours Bergie turns to me and says " lets go get some silver!" ;D needless to say i was all about that!

next up was the site of an old horse racing track from the turn of the century until around 1920 or so. it is another massive site and soooo much of it is impossible to hunt due to very very thick vegetation. its amazing how much nature can take back in 100 years! right off the bat i found these three strange Tokens/ Pins. they have a mark on the back of them that looks like a pin or rod was attached at one time.one of them still has a date emblem on it. 1911. they are about the size of a silver dollar. very interesting way to start the day!

Re: back from a weekend of detecting with Bergie, Earthworks and Goingdown

as the day went on i found my first silver.......although not really the flavor we were looking for. ::) it was a 1948 roosie! i swear i could find a roosie in ancient Greece! hey.silver is silver and i was happy to get it. ;) another hour or two later i found an awesome standing liberty quarter! the date is worn off, and i was super surprised when it popped out! it was an iffy signal because there was some trash in the hole with it. i was pretty happy at this point, and would have been happy with just these finds! in the back of my mind though i was thinking, "man, i wish i could pull out a barber!" about a half hour later i got my wish!! i was hunting a really grown over area that we think might have been a parking lot, and out popped this 1910 Barber Quarter! :o :o
once again, Phil.......you are awesome! thank you, thank you, thank you for a fantastic weekend. it was a blast hunting with you! now get back to that track and snag the rest of that silver! ;) :D

Nice finds, Keith. Looks like you guys had a great time. I was looking for you the other day at H. J. Park. No wonder I couldn't find you. You obviously had better hunting grounds to detect. HH
