Back to the barrio - '17 Walker and more.
Hey everyone... I had a chance to hit the barrio park that produced 9 Indians and a Barber a couple weeks back. Yesterday's hunt was a fun one that included myself, the CAPTN, my dad, Ratman, as well as Leo and the crew of "Finders Keepers", as well as a couple other detectorists I met for the first time that day (Ernie and another whose name I've forgotten...)
The finds were a bit slow as the area that gave up all the goods the first hunt was getting pretty thin; Dan managed an Indian out of here though, as well as some silver.
A new area produced the Merc, then I finally got a nickel I was looking for in the pounded area.
Then it started getting dark. Everyone had left my dad and I to a spot near the central area and he started getting some early wheats. I joined him and got a GREAT signal reading at the bottom of the depth meter, very high and blurbly - a quintessential deepie that I marked with a straw for the others' return.
When they arrived the cameraman was gone, as were the two people learning their SEs (I told them I'd save a good signal so they could hear what a deepie sounds like). So that only left Dan to listen and he agreed it was a nice one. At 7 inches it turned out to be larger than I expected - the super-clean '60 Washington.
Now everyone was fighting the dusk to get their finds recorded on camera. While I was waiting at the sidelines I got another decent signal and certainly didn't expect to be holding a large silver rimmed dirt clod extracted at only 5 inches. "Half" I yelled to anyone around me. "Half!"... "Huh?"... "Half!"... "Half of what?" someone replied... "No, half..." Finally the light clicked on and everyone gathered for the revealing. Funny, someone mentioned "Maybe it's a '17 or '18..." And it was. 1917 S (obv) is a semi-key, too, I think... Needless to say that finished off the day.
The coins on the left are from the 2nd hunt at this park last week; the V nickel is an '09, found accidentally next to a wheat at about 3 inches. :P

This old compact was found when I decided to swing the 8" coil inside a muddy tire depression that was about 8-10" deep. It was down another 5", which makes you wonder just how many great coins are far out of reach...

Here's all the keepers (minus wheats) from 3 hunts. Not too shabby!
Thanks for looking!
