duh...duh... DFX
I decided that tonight I would abandon the DFX and fire up ol' reliable ACE250 and go in search of pennies. Not just ANY pennies mind you, but the most common type..Lincoln Memorials.
I avoided areas where I had found wheats in the past and notched out ALL returns except three in the penny range. I made SURE to include the one bar lower than where a copper penny sounded off so that I wouldn't miss a single zinc penny!
Man I am sore after digging so many holes....but it was a BLAST!!...
I know I haven't been doing this as long as a LOT of you fellow hunters, but c'mon...just how many of us have felt that great JOY as our finds pouch started getting HEAVY?

HH all!

Thanks for finding those memmies for Big B and me! But, I'm not interested in them. I'll take the 1700s Spanish silver. :D :-*

Whatever floats your boat, bud!

If you're not interested in them, then PLEASE, by all means...do not read my post or reply to it! To me that is as ironic as Brian digging so much clad last year and then claming he's not familiar with clad!

Now you bash me in my posts and your posts.

Get over yourself man. You got lucky by finding some unhunted location and now you think you are god's gift to this forum. Come to Central Indiana and see what you leave with. It won't be much, especially if you are toting that Ace 250.

lol you are too funny Brian....and you accuse ME of being self absorbed?
Talk to your "bud" Doy if you're concerned about your name being mentioned. He was the one that brought your name into this post.
And you're right....if, as you said, it requires arrogance to get old coins out of the ground in your area...then I am SURE I would be completely and utterly SKUNKED in your spots :D

Oh yeah...the Iceberg had been hunted extensively in the late 70s and early 80s...I am sure you would do just fine if you came there to hunt.

I've never stated that I'm not self absorbed. It's nothing that I try to hide.

You always try to portray yourself as the more mature or bigger person and if that were the case you would have read his post and left me out of your response.

Trust me, if a spot yields how many thousands of wheat pennies, silver coins, etc. then it hasn't been "extensively hunted" in the past by any one with any ability to use a detector.

PENNIES? Sounds like you had fun! You might want to separate the coppers from the zincers and save the coppers. I can not believe anyone would slam an ACE 250 unless, their parents were supporting them and they had little respect for anything. I can believe the Berg was hunted in the 70s and 80s but the detectors back then were not as good as an ACE 250. HH, Mike

Wow, now that's a bunch of new money! Thanks for posting the pictures Dan.

I guess I'm one of those guys who dig a lot of clad money also. I only found 4 thousand clad coins last year with my trusty ACE 250. I suppose a lot of it came from virgin sites, but you know what, I'm not telling where they are either.

I guess research pays off, not in only clad money but good silver finds also. Hope everyone finds there special place someday. It really is a lot of fun hunting where no one else has been!

HH, Ringfinder

I was planning just such a post for April 1! At least you could have found some way to wear them like those silver halves you were sporting for a while. I'm still hobbling from 56 memorials on Monday; I can't imagine digging twice that much.

Um, it's too late for humility........way too late. How much silver, how many wheats ?? Geez the nerve 'a you Iowa guys!!!

(just between you and me - I'd gloat 'til my eyes bled. Don't let anyone else read this or I'll look like a jerk too........wait, no....I mean.........oh, shoot.)

How ever you do it Danimal....You still gotta love it.Thinking about getting the wife an Ace,Probably will be the only one she need's...

Nice finds Danimal.I do believe you could go to central Indiana and find more than clad as could I or anyone else who has detected for a year or more with the same machine,Ace250 or even a B.H..It's not a gift to be able to dig old coins, anybody can do it.Just depends where your hunting at and knowing where to hunt.Don't let the young 'uns get to ya.Now if they wanna try S.Florida for some of these old coins they boast about all the time,I know they would walk away empty handed or with a pocketfull of only clad. Its all in where you hunt, and down here that amounts to who you know, unless you plan on breaking laws to do it.Cause most all the "good spots" are off limits to detecting.

wow, diggum, I figured florida would have some good silver, there's been people there for a LONG time, and it's been touristy for decades. We do have it pretty good in WI, a lotta undug ground, and taxpayer property is pretty much a free-for-all. Any of the other diggers that I've run across(both of 'em), pretty much just cherry-pick, so their inexperience leaves alot of good stuff in the dirt anyway.

Sure it does, you must read my reply a little more carefully to fully understand what I am stating. ;)

My motto is where there is a Wheatie there you will find some silver.
That has been true for most of my hunts.
Even if it is a silver ring.
Keep your coil to the ground and listen for the sound...
Awe silver... :D

Wow Dan, what a workout! I love those memorials stacked. You've been getting stacking tips from Storm, haven't you? ;D
Although some members may not appreciate clad coins, or even take the time to bend over & pick them up, aren't there some rare somewhat valuable clad coins out there that us Cladites may find while MDing? I'm not up on coin values yet, but I'm slowly learning thanks to these forums. The recent mint errors on the new George Washington quarter comes to mind, but I'm sure if I look in a coin book there must be more. I read that new error Washington quarter sold as high as $600, but was now selling on E-bay for about $50. I don't know about the other members, but I'll bend over and pick up a $50 quarter anyday. Unless it is on the floor of a prison shower floor, of course. :o
Speaking of picking up clad quarters, here was a neat post from a few weeks ago. ;D

Great job Dan.
Ridley and I are hitting a 1804 plantation house on 2 acres on Saturday. Hopefully, I can beat him to a few good coins. He's got a DFX, and I got a 1999 Tesoro $200 machine.
Sounds fair, huh? :D

WTG,Dan...Ya know, I love fishin.Wheather its sneakin up the Black river in hopes of hooking up with an illusive brookie or sittin on the end of a dock catching perch one after another....its still fishin, and its all good....Joe

GL w/Ridley Miner...sounds like a great spot! I'd check repeatedly around where the path to the privey was. Do you know where the well was, etc?

hey Dan...great day and ouch..my arm would be sore in the morning.....by the way why can't we all just get along... ;D ;D.;D. H.H...TnT

Dan,
This will be our 1st trip to this new spot. A coworker actually lives in this old place. She was able to track the house back as far as 1804. It may be older? One of the previous owners was a doctor during the CW, and actually ran a small hospital out of the home. He is buried across the street from the house. It has all the makings of a fun time. ;D
The soil she told me is the soft black farm dirt too.
I'm going to tell Ridley he needs to give me a 1 hour headstart. ;D
I'll be bringing my new Bongo Privy Probe too, to poke around for a well, outhouse, etc.
Man, I hope I can get a coin into the 1800's this year!
Have a great time at your new site too.

Memorials....Really.....I'd be bored to tears but that just shows that we are not all alike. More power to ya danimal. Here's hoping that you find each and every one of them so I don't have to.
