Got back to the WWII airport training site for about 4 hours yesterday, not a whole lot of finds though.

I did find more 'practice rounds', for some strange reason I love finding these.
:laughing7: The only decent find was the gold-plated locket, which I found in the park area where the fighter jet's mounted. Looks to be pretty old too. :icon_scratch:
Thanks for looking and HH!

Nice finds (and photograph's) ANTIQUARIAN - thanks for sharing...

looks like there were pictures in the locket (?)

I hate to sound like an alarmous, but be careful digging around what looks like live rounds of ammo. Probably wouldn't go off even if you did punch that primer hard enough, little different then just putting a gouge in a silver, might be a gouge in your head. (God forbid)

Not too bad man. Least ya didn't get skunked!!

Nice finds.. Looks like you have a nice spot there... Hope you have some more luck..

That looks like a decent site! Congrats and HH!!

I was hoping there would be as well. Although when I looked at it more closely under a 30x jewelers loop there's no shadow of a portrait at all. :icon_scratch:

Thanks for your post JJ,
Dave

I appreciate your input and your concern in this regard treblehunter!
Every 'practice ammo round' I've dug so far has had a 'firing pin mark' in the bottom of each bullet, so I'd assume these 'dropped rounds' were all 'duds'. :dontknow: I'll post a pic of the base of the bullets at the bottom of this post.

Thanks again for your concern,
Dave

Yeah really, it's better than finding nothing eh! :laughing7:

training site? .. find out where the obsticle course was, i did a training site not too long ago and cleaned up on silver every visit. the one i did was huge. find the ravine where they would have had to train, soldiers running, climbing ropes, crawling. trust me, they lost alot of personal items doing that. mostly religious pendants and pocket change, remember when they trained in the movie stripes? just imagine that course from 60yrs ago. ... you find that couse? youll be digging silver for 4 days.

Strange your not finding silver, it should be producing big time. I would give it a few more tries, and try to get some more info on the site. Locate the messes and any old sports fields, all the bases had them.
Nice score on the locket though.:hello2:

When I find brass like that it makes me wonder how they got there!

Well, it was a WWII training site and they had a firing range on the same property. So it doesn't surprise me when 'practice rounds' come to the surface.

Thanks for your post TT!

That's a great idea prolab! I never thought about about their 'fitness regime'! :icon_scratch:
I'll do some more investigative research and will post back if I find anything!

Thanks very much for this!
Dave

There still is a 'sports field' located here, I noticed it in a photo taken back in the 1960's. The general area that I've been detecting is where the mess hall building is located. I think I'll head back and give the 'sports field' area a sweep when we get some wetter weather, as it's been hot and dry here for weeks!
Best of luck to you Dave! :occasion14:
