Before New Orleans was wiped out, I got lost down in an area just outside the French Quarter. Like being in another country, literally. Everyone I passed who were in their yards, on the street, or on their porch glared at me with a face full of hate, not fear. That's the South, I guess, but I know other major cities have the same problem. Chicago, L.A., New York, Miami, Houston, etc. I don't think it'll change; that element will always be with us in one form or another, even centuries from now. I think the mailman is safe because he's in the 'hood five-six days a week; he's a member. The rest of us who want to go in once or twice a year and invade the territory are considered outsiders. Ya takes ya chances. Not sweet.
