My wife is sunbathing with our daughter in sunny florida this easter. I am here in cold maine, puppysitting our baby papillon pup all alone. I could not be happier!! Got 2 do just what I want! Today that was listening to my xmas tesoro sing easter music 2 me!! I have been working The weed house site across the steet and having pretty good luck for a greenhorn. Today I decided I needed a change of scenery so I went to a local bball park with a big long south facing bank. It was still a little frozen, an inch or so at 10:00 this morning. 22 degrees last night. But I could get through it. Was considering this practice and was picking up a fair amount of clad. when I got a good deep signal. Got my first washinton quarter 1941, 8 inches down. Got another signal same hole my first war nickel 1945 ! I was pumped ! Still a signal in hole 1950 wheat, I could not believe I had found a spill there that the other M.Ders had missed ! Now I was really fine tooth combing this area! 6 feet away got another good signal, 6 inches down was the toy sword. A foot away from that had a good faint signal. dug at least 10 inches down, out poped a toy coin or so I thought right next to the toy sword ! Then I wondered what did they make toy coins out of so that they come out of the ground all nice an shiney! I thought maybe it was a small silver token scince it did not have a face profile on it. After 3 hours I had 2 go home and tend puppy and clean up finds! Looked at toy coin under mag glass , UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 1853 I could not believe my luck! On back thirteen stars around edge with roman letter III surrounded by a cresent. I had found An 1853 silver 3 cent piece. HAPPY EASTER TO ME !! also $ 2.43 in clad

Congrats on the nice finds! HH, Mike

Awsome finds! I found out the hard way that some ball fields can have old history last year as I uncovered a 1800's half dollar about 4" down. The funny part was I was pulling modern coins at 5-6 inches! Anyway, unfortunatly I ended up scratching the coin unfortunatly. That ball field may yield more great finds for you, as I found to old buttons close by. Good luck

Very nice find!!!!!!!! congrats!!!! That would make my year! I have not found one yet in 39 years of MD ing. WTG. I did find an Easter surprise of my own though, a silver dollar, peace type, 1922. I will post a pic when I get a new comp.

Great find!! The toy dagger thing might have helped you home in on the trime.

I'd love to find one of those.

great find in the trime! Awesome! I would sure hunt the heck out of that park again. Did you tell the family they could stay another week? :)

By the way, they didn't make them in nickel in 1853... only silver.
